Re-read 2024: This volume was out of stock for 2 years ;-; snatched one ASAP when Norma printed a new batch this summer.
This volume hit like a truck as the first time haha, Harada is so good at build up.

First read 2020: Oh man, shit went south...I felt so bad for Shoukichi, I didn't know how this was going to end and was on edge witnessing how Fukusuke was manipulating the workplace to further his plan to get Shoukichi all to himself. Nevertheless, the ending was satisfying in some twisted way. Fukusuke played the "I had a bad childhood card" and Shou, soft hearted as he is, couldn't not forgive him.

I didn't like the art much in the first volume but it grew on me in this one. Specially the panels with Fukusuke's face when he snapped.

Color Recipe is not a story for anyone, it's dark and the portrayal of a psychopath is good, on a positive note Harada sensei doesn't romanticize the relationship between the characters and gave the most logical ending… which isn't happy at all.

Es buena la historia, pero esperaba más, hay manipulación psicológica y un personaje muy interesante y turbio, pero creo que le faltó más profundidad.

En este segundo tomo ya se ve más de los planes, hay más desarrollo y se revela todo, pero esperaba más. Es una historia tóxica y de manipulación y listo.

Antes de nada, mucho ojo si vais a leer esta historia porque tiene un montón de detonantes psicológicos (abuso, manipulación, luz de gas y sociopatía a lo grande) y no creo que sea para todo el mundo, dicho esto, eso es lo que hace a este manga tan bueno. El hecho de sea tan incómodo de leer y el regusto amargo que te deja al acabarlo. Demasiado gráfico y real.

Incredibly uncomfortable to read, but at least it does not romanticize the situation. The main problem is that, besides the uncomfortableness, it doesn't really offer anything of substance: the story just doesn't have much to it.

First of all, I want to give a warning. This manga contains manipulation as the main theme, along with toxic relationship, stalking, rape, abusive, obsessive and psychotic seme.

The build up for these things that happen was insane. The tension rose up drastically. It's so intense I wan't to throw up LOL. I love how Harada-sensei didn't romanticize and sugar coat it. It doesn't always need a sad slash tragic backstory to make a character gone bad. Sometimes they just happened to be bad. If you are a bad person then you are a bad person. That's it.

"Now, back to square one."

THAT SENTENCE LITERALLY GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS!
CURSE YOU FUKUSUKE! AND FUCK YOU RIKU!

[heavy breathing] I really love an open ending. And this manga gave me that.

Harada-sensei you are mad genius. Until I closed the last page, you managed to make me wonder what will happen to Shou-kun. Will he be trapped back? Will he be tortured again? [sigh] I just wan't Shou-kun to be alright and separated from people like Fukusuke and Riku,,,,, he's too soft-hearted and kind-hearted for this harsh world,,,,, He don't deserve any of this,,,,, [sobs]

Anyway, I'll warn you ((again)): this manga wasn't a nice and comfortable read, but it was super interesting and gripping! I really enjoyed reading it ((even though I wanted to throw up here and there LMAOOO)). If you don't have any problems with the things I mentioned above, do me a favor and check this manga out!

Meanwhile, I'll definitely check out Harada-sensei's other works!

Es muchísimo mejor de lo que esperaba.

Al terminar de leerlo quedé con una sensación de pánico e incomodidad tan grande que me emociona. Todo fue tan abrumador y turbio de una buena manera que simplemente no quería parar de leer.

Soy muy fan de las cosas que genuinamente te producen terror porque son situaciones que realmente pasan en la vida cotidiana, por lo que esta historia en parte te podría hacer perder más aún la fé en la humanidad.

Me resulta un tanto extraño decir que me encantó tomando en cuenta que no es una historia para nada linda, pero sin duda está muy bien hecha.

La forma en la que Harada tocó temas tan fuertes y perturbadores sin la más mínima intención de romantizarlo fue magnífico, por lo que también puedo asegurar que no es una historia que cualquier persona deba leer. No sólo por ser una persona adulta va a ser contenido más apto, sino que puede resultar algo bastante sensible de leer, por lo que sugiero que lean esta historia sólo si están realmente seguros de poder hacerlo, esto también para evitar el odio a historias que claramente no fueron hechas para todo público.

Broche de oro.

Harada se ha marcado un final de traca i mocador (como decimos en catalán).

En este segundo tomo, Harada nos muestra más a Fukusuke, un personaje realmente complejo y muuuuuy inquietante.

El tomo comienza un año después del final del primero y nos encontramos con que la relación de Sho y Fukusuke no es como la que este último esperaba. Esto hace que comience de nuevo un nuevo plan para hacer que Sho sea solo suyo. Esto originará que Fukusuke se muestre tal y como es.

Harada, realmente, ha creado una historia muy inquietante y ciertamente te deja con mal cuerpo (hay momentos muy duros y puede costar leer el tomo seguido ante la intensidad de la trama) aunque, a la vez, es todo tan complejo, está tan bien hecha está historia que es imposible no disfrutarla. Harada es una reina, magnífica.

Lo único que puedo hacer es recomendarla mucho, porque merece mucho la pena. Aunque no sea la típica historia happy del bl (todo lo contrario) es una joya del manga oscuro, de historias realmente bien pensadas, oscuras y realistas.

Genuinamente puedo decir que no se cual es la finalidad de Harada para crear este tipo de historias, las cuales están “mal” de principio a fin, eso si, debo decir que me parece que no romantiza las situaciones ocurridas en sus mangas, si no que nada más las representa.

Asimismo aún así desearía que este hubiera tenido otro final, como niichan, el final que se merecían. Porque siempre deja a los abusadores y acosadores absueltos de cualquier culpa, y en cambio nos muestra como el otro personaje casi que se tira a sus brazos sin importar todo aquello que sufrieron.

Además siendo sincera me gusto muchísimo más el tomo 1, que el 2.

No sé cómo puntuarlo, sinceramente.

Este es definitivamente mejor que el primero, pero no lo categorizaría como yaoi (si se entiende yaoi como romance bl).

Como romance bl se merece un 0, muestra comportamientos tóxicos y escenas muy problemáticas. Pero como thriller psicológico le pondría un 4 o así, la manera en la que el personaje de Fuksuke está construido es una maravilla. Es un psicópata de los de manual, súper inteligente y me ha gustado especialmente la forma en la que, poco a poco, Harada nos muestra diversas facetas de él para confundir al lector, haciéndonos sentir como lo hace Shô. *chefs kiss*

I decided to place this at four stars instead of three because of how much I enjoy the ending. I don't really like that so much of the story is while and post the whole torture part - I like having a lot more manipulation from afar stuff - I don't really enjoy kidnapping stories because they all can only end in a few ways. But whatever that's just personal taste. I like watching the white haired guy get humiliated. My fav scene is the one in which he crouches on the floor and begs for forgiveness and doesn't get it.

Y este tomo es el necesario para que el protagonista se dé cuenta y vea qué está ocurriendo. Es estremecedora y horripilantemente delicioso. La escena en la que el protagonista le dicen que Fuku es afable (porque lo es. Es afable con todo el mundo, porque así son los maltratadores) y él sólo puede pensar ¿afable? porque jamás habría puesto ese adjetivo refiriéndose a él, porque jamás ha sido afable con él. Y la forma en la que estalla y lo lleva todo demasiado lejos, permitiendo que la goma del maltrato se estire tanto que la víctima sea capaz de alejarse, pero el maltratador ya está planificando el hoovering... UF. Harada sabe narrar muy bien este tipo de maltrato y sus partes sin caer en lo manido de explicarlo.

Trato de evitar historias con relaciones tóxicas, sobretodo en el BL, pero leer a Harada es muy interesante y cuando empecé a leer este manga definitivamente no esperaba que fuera la típica historia de romance.
Esperaba personajes retorcidos y eso fue lo que obtuve, interesante si se lee pensando que es un thriller.

Estoy indecisa entre ponerle un 3 o un 4, como siempre, Harada me pone a pensar.

Personajes perturbados, turbios y con intereses claros, que los harán tomar las decisiones más extremas, pero lo increíble de esto es que son decisiones que "los humanos en la vida real toman" y eso es lo preocupante, el sentimiento de inquietud que me dejan sus historias.

Existen autores que les gusta juzgar a sus personajes con el peor final posible, "el justo" para la moral, también hay autores que crean finales felices que no tienen lógica, romantizando la violencia y el amor enfermizo, y al final está Harada que crea finales ambiguos, agridulces, ninguno de sus personajes son completamente "buenos" o "malos", tienen contrastes.

El dibujo de Harada me gusta mucho, las miradas llenas de rencor, reproche, y la forma en que puede cambiar el aura de un personaje.

Riku es nosotros lectores, al principio, vemos todo como espectadores, analizando todo por entretenimiento, y también es el catalizador para ver el interior de Fuku.


Aunque Shoukochi fue víctima de abuso, su personalidad lo liga completamente de nuevo a Fukusuke, cayendo en sus redes enfermas.

Once again, I'm reminded that Harada really is the master of human psychology in yaoi relationships lol. This book is kind of a manipulation and gaslight 101 to the point that, when the Fukusuke's initial plan is slowly revealed, it gives the same vibe as when a perpretator finally reveals their method in murder mystery books.

Plus I like that some of the characters' reactions are unpredictable. Like when Fukusuke can't get hard when Shou shows fear and disinterest? It shows that there is slight love/care inside, even if overshadowed by all the fuckup-ery going on. And Shou, despite being the victim, is shown as the stronger and more capable person by the end of the book. Harada's characters are always very nuanced, alive, and human.

Plus, don't even get me started with the art. Harada's style is always distinct. And the way she illustrates emotions???? Too good. Too good.

So, with that glowing praises, why did I only give this book 2 stars?

Because it's so tiring and uninteresting to read!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭 It took me almost two weeks just to pick up the 2nd volume coz I was taken aback by the sudden addition of a new side character that, to me, doesn't add anything to the story!

And the plot, at the beginning, doesn't feel like it's moving! I was bored! I was confused! Where is Harada taking me? Where are we going???

Maybe it's my fault for not being patient enough, and that other more-patient readers will find this story more entertaining. But the whole stylist career plot doesn't grip me enough. I don't sense a bigger storyline to latch onto in this 2nd volume, and therefore I'm bored. Doesn't help that I feel there's so many speech bubble and text... plus the way other characters call out Fukusuke like they're trying to spell things out for the dumb readers? I appreciate the callback, but it kinda bores me out ngl.

So, again, Harada is still the master of character psychology. But if anyone ever wants to delve into Harada's work, then I really don't think I'd recommend this one. There are other Harada's works that are better than this.

Here comes the uncomfortable volume.

It gives continuation to what it seems to be a fluffly love story in the making, with a twist.

I was pleased with the side characters. Riku, the crossdresser, was very intriguing. They made me believe that they were actually more psycopath inclined, than the male lead.

The newest hairdresser was an interesting distraction. He was mostly there with the purpose of being used by the prince. We didn't know much about him nor the boss, but they added to the picture as a whole.

Even though it's easy to see how the story is headed, there's satisfaction in seeing it unfold.

TW: non consensual sexual acts.

When the seme doesn't get his results quick enough, his impatience leads him to make some bad decisions that cost him his relationship.
The art style of these scenes were very effective, I saw how dead inside the uke became after the first major incident, and how he started loosing his sanity as the days went on.
I was surprised by how things turned towards the end. The seme puts on a despair act to compel his partner in taking him back? Or was he really feeling empathy in the later scenes? Did he actually care for his "object"? Maybe he was more of a sociopath. I ended up feeling bad for him, thinking that he only needed love but didn't know how to show it in a healthy way. Could he actually be "saved" if he sought help?

It saddens me that I actually wanted them to somehow fix things. I'm not usually this flexible about giving people a second chance specially when there's no way of remorse, therefore how can anything be fixed to begin with. If they ended up together, that would be a very miserable life for the uke, always under manipulation and potentially even isolation.

Good story, good open ending. Let's you do your own interpretation of things.

Si el primer tomo me creo impotencia por el tremendo giro de los acontecimientos, esta segunda parte era un "quiero tirarlo por la ventana, pero también quiero leerlo para saber que pasa". Realmente me han dado ganas de espabilar a los personajes con un guantazo.

En este segundo tomo la historia se sigue desarrollando tras 1 año, con la incorporación de un nuevo estilista. Si bien en el primero se centraba solo en la relación que Shôkichi y Fukusuke, ahora empiezan a participar el resto de personajes, lo que llevará a nuestros protagonistas a diferentes situaciones tensas.

El chiclé de una historia BL deja de existir cuando en este segundo tomo se desarrolla por completo el amor dogmático y la trama se va complicando a pasos agigantados, provocando que la verdad salga a la luz y sus respectivas consecuencias.

Todo cae por su propio peso, pero lo que más me ha sorprendido es la inocencia de Shôkichi ante la verdad y la motivación tan arraigada de Fukusuke. Es como que ambos saben lo que hay, pero ninguno quiere cambiarlo.

Por este mismo motivo es una historia que invita a reflexionar sobre las relaciones en general, porque se presentan varios puntos de vista por medio de los personajes sobre lo que significa "amar" a alguien. Y es preocupante el como obsesionarse con alguien puede llegar a estos extremos.

Como opinión general de ambos tomos, la historia cala hondo y da que pensar. Ha sido un reflejo de la realidad para nada ficticio y que te hace darte cuenta de ciertas actitudes. Es más que obvio que engancha y que te mantiene en vilo hasta terminar ambos tomos, pero también lo es que no te deja indiferente.

God my poor Shou. I almost started crying when he was so scared and like the fight was just gone from him. It hurt so bad, but the ART it's so good!!! I can't get over how amazing Harada's work is.

This is similar to Nii-chan in that the ending is an open ended non ending sort of thing. There's not a clear cut conclusion and you're left to wonder what happens to them after. I love Riku a lot. I think he drove the plot well without totally feeling like that's all he was meant to do. Although, I couldn't get a full read on him. Like when he said he was a little jealous. I can't tell if it was because he was also interested in Shou, but fine watching him from the sidelines, or was jealous over Fuku's uh... determination lol. BUT POOR SHOU. I'm so sad, he was able to recover a bit by the end of it, but god that whole middle where he would flinch and his eyes were like sunken and downcast. PAIN. Fuck Fuku, man.

I really liked this. I do wish there was something just a bit more definite about the ending. I'm fine with it being open ended, but there could've been just a little more given to the reader before that. I would've loved just a tad more development or info from Riku. There's just something missing that left the way it ended unsatisfying.

Todavía dudo si ponerle una puntuación de 3'5 o 4 estrellas.

La historia me ha gustado, es turbia, con una relación tóxica que nunca desearíamos pero nos gusta leer. La historia es muy rápida, se sucede todo de forma muy precipitada en partes. Siendo dos tomos los tiempos son muy cortos y por eso da esa sensación de mucha velocidad.

Siento que Sho es muy plano hasta el final y Fuku tiene mucho más peso, cosa que es evidente. Me gusta como los personajes secundarios también "intervienen" en la historia. El dibujo es agradable, el hecho de la no censura me es indiferente, no leo estas obras por esas escenas. Sin embargo, para todos aquellos que os gusten, lo preferireis así.

El final me tenía muy buena pinta, lo llevaba hacia un punto interesante, pero quedó abierto. Si es verdad que se "cierra" de cierta forma la trama principal, pero el tomo se queda con un continuará... Da la impresión que está historia tiene una segunda parte.
