10 sadistic killers. One state. Countless lives that will never be the same again.
To the outside world, New Mexico is the epitome of art, culture, and pristine, picturesque landscape. For those whom have had the misfortune of bearing witness to what lies below the surface, behind the façade of majestic mountains and miles of beloved desert land, life in New Mexico will forever be jaded by the memory of heinous acts perpetrated upon those they loved.
This often-fabled territory conjures up images of the Wild West, where the blood of ancestors is as commonplace as the cacti, but that dark history opened the floodgates to the worst of modern society.
Deep in the crevices of the land lay secrets—secrets that leave current residents and weary investigators flummoxed and hungry for the truth.

I have received an ARC Mobi.file copy [Advanced Reader’s Copy] of this book from the author through a giveaway he had on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion.
While I’m an aficionado when it comes to books belonging to the genre of True Crime books [just look at the Amazon badge I’ve got on my profile there], I also happen to be a devotee of non-fiction Christian books [just check out my reviews where about 45% books I reviewed so far this years have belonged to this genre]. While the genres might seem to juxtaposition to each other, when it comes to reading True Crime books, both genres happen to intrigue me since they both educate me as to what drives individuals to commit the heinous crime of murder, and many times more than one.
The official nickname [since April 8, 1999] for New Mexico is the “Land of Enchantment” which is due to its rich history and scenic beauty; this nickname had been placed on its license plates going back to 1941. However, this is merely a smokescreen to what is actually happening there far too often for this image.
Mr. Ryan Becker, once again, this time with the assistance of Brenda Brown and True Crime Seven, has presented to his readers a well-research and also well-written expose of has happened behind the façade I’ve just mentioned.
No one wants to have the truth hidden from, especially when it concerns their lives and what is happening around where they’re living. These individuals yearning hungrily for the truth to be made known, the truth which might have the investigators as well, flabbergasted by the truth when they found it, regarding any of the heinous acts and their perpetrators contained within the pages of this book.
The book’s description lists just some of the individuals whose atrocious deeds are discussed in the book, there are four more:
David Parker Ray: The Toy Box Killer Ricky Abeyta: The Chimayo Massacre Linda Henning & Diazien Hossencofft: Murder Without a Body Shane Glen Harrison & Esther Beckley: Spree Killers Robert Fry: The “Indian Roller” William Bonney: aka “Kid” Antrim aka “Billy the Kid”
To learn the truth of what has happened in the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico you’ll have to read this informative book, a book I’ve given 5 STARS to Mr. Becker and all those involved in the writing of it.
I'm a fan of true crime and so I read quite a bit of it. I find that short summaries are often a fun read because they're quick, they're easy to gobble up, you can start/stop them rather easily, and they can be a jumping off point if you want to do further reading/research on a crime discussed. There's absolutely nothing wrong with reading the "short version" and this book is just that -- quick summaries of crimes.
The major issue: the writing is all over the place. There are moments where the writing just falls flat. There are moments where the writing is dry. There are moments where the writing doesn't do any justice to the victims. There are moments where the writing is crude (in a way that makes it a little off-putting). There are also moments where the writing is too summary focused and you end up with something like "There was a Native American reservation there." Okay, you can put a little more detail than that!
Stories are interesting yet the writing is just too all over the place to do the stories justice.
0.5 stars. Did I get a different book than everyone else?? Was no one else put off by lines like 'He thrusted and thrusted his penis into her and squealed in orgasmic pleasure.'??? That read more like something out of Penthouse or Hustler and made me feel more like the sick assholes who perpetrated the crimes for reading it. All the reviews are positively gushing for a book that I feel is little better than the penny dreadfuls sold in Whitechapel in 1888. That, and can these ebooks please be reviewed and edited better before they get to the public?!
This book contains several cases of murder which took place in New Mexico over the years. Although the methods varied, what they all had in common was the absolute ruthlessness of the killers.
Some of the chapters were well-written while others had an unacceptable number of errors.
As always I'm always excited when a new release comes out! Ryan Becker is one of my all time favorite authors and the more I read from him and who he works with the more I'm drawn in and super excited for his next release! So if you are looking for a true crime book that is well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat then look no further! One of my favorite things about Mr. Becker is not just how talented he is but how he just wants to relate the facts and states them as they are. As many books (true crime esp) that I have read a lot of times it seems to be from either the victims view or families. And I think it's so important to let the reader decide just almost like a jury would after everything is all together! And he has always done a very great job of that....... So excited for another new series also!! Can't wait for the next book!!!
I brought another review where the reviewer said Ryan Becker gives you the fax and let you make up your own mind. In this book there’s something different about it something not like the others. It’s still great super awesome he’s a professional at this in more ways than one. I love your style of writing the concepts he comes up with the books is just awesome and the book reflects that. Unlike his last Siri‘s he does this one by himself changes tactics in writing style it’s still hits a homerun. What can’t Ryan Becker do? Oris it Becker I always get it mixed up with that Siri‘s. Anyway is a great book do you like the read about the most horrible people in society this is a great one. You won’t find famous killers throughout but you go fine a couple murdered together, the toybox keller and some you’ve never heard of, but all are great. By this book.
I read this book last weekend and I'm just sorry I didn't read it sooner. There are a few stories within this true crime anthology that I'd enjoy reading more than once, for example Billy the Kid and Clay Allison. As a western fan it was fascinating reading the "unidealized" version of these two men. So different from how they are portrayed in fiction and the movies.
Then Ryan Becker tackles the more recent history of New Mexico's callous murderers. Wow Mr Becker certainly knows how to put together a compelling set of cases. Don't let anyone who works or New Mexico Tourism get ahold of this book!
The writing was factual, yet dry. Serial killers (or murder in itself) has all that one needs to be enthralling, to capture the attention. And yet, no attempt was made to do so. It read almost like a textbook, without the added facts to make it able to be one. If I needed to write a report on one of these mentioned killers, I could use this as a citation.
This was a review promo, and free. I give my voluntary review and opinion. This book, as the title indicates very gruesome, yet interesting. I enjoyed the play by play of the life of outlaw Billy the Kid. Most of the evil monsters didn't get what was coming to them, but at least most where punished. I recommend this book not to the faint of heart.
