About the Pirates. A Pharaoh's Secret. Your Family Connection.
What links the last Egyptian pharaoh in 360 BC to the nastiest pirates of the 1690s? The answer lies in a fiercely guarded secret chain of letters of your ancestors. And it's been around for five hundred generations!
You have the oldest family tradition in the world - a secret practice your cavemen ancestors started in 13,000 BC. It's time for you to discover the secret history of your ancestors; in their own words. These letters bind your bloodline with a bond thicker than blood.
Thicker Than Blood is a fast-paced, short read, and is the prequel to the Letters of a Bloodline series. This novella contains two uncannily connected short stories. The ending plunges you right into Maya's Confession, the first full-length novel of the series.
About the Puranik is the winner of Literati 2019 (South Asian award for microfiction). He is an Electronics Engineer and holds an MBA from IIM Calcutta. He lives in Mumbai with his wife, Gayatri.
The pace which author maintains throughout this novella is amazing given this is his debut work. While he puts you on a solid diet of peppy dialog exchanges, the story moves toward a suspence which keeps you on the edge the whole time. Characters are enticing and make you emotionally invest in them. Atfer a very long time I read an excellent piece of Historical fiction which left me fulfilled. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
What a thriller! The book is a fast paced 2 hour read. The lucid style of writing is maintained throughout. Without leaving any loopholes, the author has maintained a strong connection from start to end though the story spans over thousands of years! The characters are easy to relate to. Their unique chacteristics are highlighted well and you tend to root for or against them. They stay put in your mind for long after you finish the book. The overarching mystery of the series promises to be incredible, right from the way it's all set up at the end of this prequel novella. Notably, the author is the winner of Literati 2019, and I'm sure he'll win many more accolades. Definitely a must read book in my opinion! Looking forward to the next books in the series!
A fast paced prequel to a book that is to follow, keeps the reader greatly engrossed. The author's very lucid style of writing effortlessly draws the reader into the plot as the author puts forth two very different tales from two immensely different time-lines but connects them through the common link of a shared Bloodline. The author fast-forwarding the reader to 2020 and giving a short insight into the novel that is to follow, would make the readers long to get their hands on the next book . Truly enjoyable!!! Looking forward to early release of the main book.
A fast paced novella which leaves you wanting more. And then you see there's more to come!! Amazing writing and gripping story line. Letters from a Bloodline promises to be the most entertaining read and create a thought provoking alternate reality surrounding historical events. Shout out to Jay for such mature writing even though it's his first attempt. It takes a lot of courage to "rewrite history" given the sentiments involved. Jay has gone ahead and rather fearlessly taken on the challenge to show heroes as anti-heroes and vice versa. Given the well rounded writing style, he would go a long way! Read this so that you don't miss out on the upcoming saga. In a literary world full of stories about pirates, and espionage, and fantasy, this book has a bit of everything for everyone. Highly recommended.
A great book for people like me who are interested in conspiracy theories and a fictional take on the past. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
First impressions You can read the excellent premise of author Jay Puranik’s stories and you could guess you’re in for a spectacular storyline, but it’s not until you’re actually reading that you know for sure it’s true. Not having read many historical fantasies of this type, I was expecting something slower paced with over-fixation on objects. How wrong I was!
What’s it about? Thicker Than Blood is gritty, not for the faint hearted – and it starts off being about pirates, particularly notorious aging pirate Roughbeard. It’s that sweat-between-the-palms feeling of pirates – bloated bellies and brains inebriated with rum. Witnessing mutiny from his crew and betrayal from pirates who had served under him, Roughbeard and his crew are to be starved and tortured and there doesn’t seem any help for it, except a deal made to secure his freedom, which looks to be ever distant as his fellow prisoners have their throats slit.
I loved the way Jay Puranik introduces his readers to the main plot, aligning it with Roughbeard’s reputation and creating circumstances where a character would be privy to secrets they wouldn’t ordinarily be. The dialogue was engaging and main events run by with impact and speed.
As the author claims he does weave more than one story together in his books, and this was no exception. The second story is about a series of events occurring in ancient Egypt that inform the main thread running throughout the series of letters passed on through ancestors. I really liked the ‘telling’ of the story, which was notable in this second story.
I would be happy to read more of Jay Puranik’s fiction. It’s a shame the story was short, in a sense, because I would have liked to have read more of this story.
Book Review : Letters of a Bloodline book 1 @writewithjay
..
.After a long time i read something different and worthwhile and even from an Indian debut author. I admire his precision and his hard work because he thinks out of the box and his writing didn't have any loose thread or loophole ,so if you are pirates of the Caribbean fan then you definitely gonna like this book. This book nothing similar to movie but when you read this book only Jack Sparrow fece comes in your mind. Scenes, characters all things are described very beautifully that you imagine things around you. So guys download this book and give it a read. It's worth it and deserves more praise.

A very well crafted book written by author Jay Puranik who is the winner of Literati 2019. This book is the prequel to the "Letters of a Bloodline" series. From the first page itself, the thing that caught my attention is the narration style. I have to admit that there is a freshness in the narration style used by the author that binds us. The flow of the book that grabbed from the beginning is something that is worth mentioning because it is not easy to cover up everything in a historical novella. The suspense that the story created makes the book a page tuner without any loopholes. From the year 1692 in Indian Ocean this book will take you in an incredible journey.
I would like to highlight few points that I liked :
📌 The concept of the book is quite unique and new for me.
📌 The storyline of the novel is the real gem of the book.
📌 The plot is mysterious which I really enjoyed reading it.
📌 Some very interesting characters are built well.
📌 The name of the characters are again something very new.
📌 Language used in the book may not be very lucid for everyone . New readers might find the book abit difficult but there are good numbers of new words you can learn.
📌 The title is very well thought.
📌 Cover looks decent.
I would recommend this book because this book has a good potential.
It’s a short book that can be finished an an hour so I will keep my reviews short as more lengthy can reveal spoilers. It’s a short prequel to the series. The book has catchy cover that immediately caught my attention. Story starts with year 1692 in Indian Ocean. The book is base don ships, captains and pirates. There are few interesting characters like Captain Ramirez of Ship Devil’s dame, Carlos, Snake eyes etc. I loved the concept and name chosen for the characters. The plot is unique and well written. I won’t discuss the story further as you can guess it from given discussion. The narration style of the author is catchy that immediately caught attention of the readers. There are number of twists and turns plotted. It’s a page turner and I could imagine the entire scenario in my head. Can’t wait to read next book in the series. Overall good one. Recommended from my side.
The whole overview of this book is enchanting. On point cover design with a twisty storyline. History and thriller makes a great combination. It's a prequel to the "Letters of a bloodline" series. Pirates , ships and the mystery of 500+ letters with amazing characterization. Each letter unfolds a secret written by Carlos's family. Each letter has it's own history and a story to tell and a secret to unfold. It keeps you on edge , feeding information bit by bit. Narration is done very well and makes it easy to visualize the whole scenario. It's a great read to excite your mind. Looking forward to the first part after this prequel.
What a gripping story!! I really liked the concept of “letters of a bloodline” and at the same time curious to read Maya’s confession. Amazing work Jay 👍🏻
An engaging pair of historical fiction short stories connected by an intriguing mystery that will be explored further in novels to come. Whether it's the swashbuckling adventures of pirates at war or the captivating chaos of a battle in ancient Egypt, the author manages to construct an immersive world with a cast of characters that each come to life in their own unique way. The stories are written in a clear way that is approachable for any reader, yet together form a narrative that is layered enough to interest anyone (like myself!) who enjoys a well-crafted tale with many moving parts. This bite-sized novella is the perfect length for anyone who wants to delve into this fictional world without committing to a longer read – though once you're finished, you'll definitely be left keen to know how the story continues!

In short, a series of letters that were written by each generation is passing through the next generation and this started in 360BC. Also, the main thing, whoever has the letter series can get an amount of money or gold or whatever treasure whenever they want from a hidden place. No one can disclose it to another person other than their bloodline. If they do, they have to kill them.
Being that, while traveling, the hero's ship chief caught by some pirates where they demand money. He got the money from that hidden place which makes doubt on him. As he can't disclose the truth, he kept remaining silent. But the chief wants to know the truth as he was going to die soon. what will happen? will he tell the truth? what is the mystery behind that treasured place?. Read this super gripping book. This book is really impressive. It is a short and spellbound book to read.
Letters of a Bloodline is a book with a unique story. A chain of letters passed down from one generation to another. Some of it contains history's dark and dirtiest secrets. The book is divided in two parts first the story starts in late 1600 and the origin of the letters are explained while the second part led to the next book "Maya's Confession". If you are a thriller fanatic then you should give this book a try.
"Thicker Than Blood" by Jay Puranik is the prequel to the "Letters of a Bloodline" series. This novella contains two uncannily connected short stories. The ending plunges you right into Maya's Confession, the first novel of the series.
In this prequel we see two characters Carlos & Captain “Roughbeard” Ramirez who handles the boat. Whereas, we have Snake Eyes who is a pirate. The start itself is every energetic and the story is very fast paced and moving forward.
I'm completely in awe with very vivid writing style of the author. With every sentence, we could literally visualise every character and scene from this book. The names of the various ships and boats given by the author is also remarkable.
The pace at which the story progresses from the first page to the last is incredible. It's a remarkably written historical fiction debut novel. The suspence keeps on increasing at every page you turn. Also, the dialogues between the characters are very impressive.
But the book is more than this, it's about the 500+ letters written by the bloodline of Carlos's family and about the secrets and stories each letter unreveals. I can't wait to read further (the first part) and then eventually the entire story of this series.
Letter of a bloodline-book 0: Thicker than blood turns to dust. Words, however, last longer. Relations Author- Jay puranik “Blood is thicker than water. Family bonds forged with blood are stronger than other relations. But with death, blood dries and built on words, ideas, and stories never die. Words are thicker than blood.”
In year 1692, some pirate ship sailing in the Indian Ocean was Disturbed and scrambled. Fire ball arched into The Devil's Dame- one of the most popular ship that ruled the massive sea was attacked. Pirate's from the enemy ship began to enter the Devil's Dame Carlo, the forty- year old carpenter has a distinct role for all the prisoner. Captain Roughbeard was the best leader among all the ships. He trembled with rage when he thought about the moment of his ship- The Devil's Dame get sunken into the ship. There was another character - Snake eye - a fifty old pirate who has stolen some gold from Roughbeard 's treasury and disappeared, five years ago while he was serving him.Carlos put a dagger in snake eye 's eye socket and killed him.The queen's ship - Anna Santana identified the Mystical Maria but never tried to interfer it's way.Captain Roughbeard enjoyed his pride in having more golds than the scholar countier of queen or his illiterate.Carlos and Roughbeard reached the cave atop of Deadman's peak where they got to view pile of gold along with a Sumerian script. There they found a statue of an Egyptian priest whose body was made of up solid gold and eyes with blue sapphire. Carlo claimed these treasure to be received from his own ancestors and all the letters from his bloodline. The story bears mystery of a splendid era of Pharaoh of Egypt that will understand the reader better about how social, political and economical standards have been those days in Philae ,Egypt in 320 B.C. There a story behind the story which triggered me to complete the book. The next story is about Shekhemkare who is also narration of it. Who was Nactanebo II? What was the secret that letter of bloodline meants to pass through generation to generation? Language was just a little hard for me as I m middle school student. Description is all imaginative and vivid I throughly enjoy my tour to Egypt.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I cannot read a pirate story without thinking about "Pirates of the Caribbean". That film franchise has become the benchmark for pirate movies for me (mostly because of Johnny Depp 😁). Anyway, I am mentioning this because the first part of the book gave me the same vibe as that of the films, albeit being a little bit more extreme because of (spoiler alert) the skinning by boiling oil. The characters of Roughbeard and Carlos are great except I really hoped the name "Carlos" could have swapped. Then of course, Roughbeard is Ramirez. (Mexican pirates in the Indian Ocean?! 🤔) Maybe, we will know something in the main book as this is only a prequel to the main story. We learn about Carlos and his bloodline's secret which he shares with Roughbeard. The 2nd part takes us to ancient Egypt in a letter of a bloodline and we finally understand the importance of the letters and how the secret came to be. We also get a glimpse of the ancient Greeks in the background. I am treating this book as the exposition to the main story, as it (literally) leads into the main story. The narration is good. Although, it could have been more dramatic. A few sentences here and there could have been better written. His diction as a pirate was quite good. The author seems to have grasped the main concept of both the pirate life and ancient Egypt. And that is evident in his writing. I don't recall reading or having any knowledge of any other book by an Indian author that features pirates and Pharaohs together. I will have to check. But it makes an interesting read. The storyline has the fullest potential of being extended into several sequels. Imagine the letters containing alternate stories from different parts of the world. Alternate histories always make an interesting read. Heartily recommend it to all readers.
: I never read a prequel book, and this is a prequel to the "Letters of a Bloodline" series. If you love pirates of Caribbean movie story you will also love this book. Characters are well developed and the names not only me no one until now may hear that kind of names. The whole book is very descriptive and while reading we can feel that as a movie. As this is a short read and prequel I don’t want to reveal the story and lose the interest of the book.

This blurb made me show interest in this book, the storyline and plot are totally out of the boundary because pirates are my favorite movie and series. So I am mad about this book.

"Letters Of A Bloodline" is a fiction written by Jay Puranik. It is prequel of a book series which will be released soon. This is a book which travels to the past, that is to the time of pirates who ruled the oceans. The story starts with the pirate who is known as the king of the Indian Ocean, Cap'n Ramirez, who is also called Roughbeard. He is the man of his word and never has any fear of his enemies. He sails throughout and destroys the ship's of other sailors and captures all their wealth.
But one bad day his ship was destroyed my a group of seven pirates and he and his people were chained in the dark chambers to be killed following week one by one. But a pirate in the seven of them was an old friend of Roughbeard and he proposed that in exchange of gold he may help them escape. Learning this the carpenter of his ship Carlos took on responsibility to save Roughbeard by bringing the gold in 4 weeks. Roughbeard thought that Carlos will cheat him and will never come back but Carlos came back with all the money that pirate asked for. Hence, Roughberad escaped with Carlos. But Roghbeard was not able to understand that from where did Carlos gained so much gold as because he was a mere carpenter.
He asked Carlos about the gold. Carlos said that he has plenty of them. Roughbeard got confused and asked him to show that gold. Carlos said that if he shows him the place with his gold then he would have to kill Roughbeard. That made Roughbeard totally agitated and he still insisted to see the gold.
Will Carlos agree? Did Roughbeard get to know Carlos's secret to so much wealth? From where did Carlos get so much gold? Do read the book and find out!
I loved the book. It is engaging and interesting. It is so involving that Iam eagerly waiting for the series after this. It is a totally different kind of line approached by an Indian author and I loved the way he has narrated the story. I recommend it to all.

The things I liked : 🍁 The language is easy but has a non-fiction touch which will make a reader feel we are reading something knowledge- orinted.
This book is a prequel to the series "Letters of a Bloodline" which will further merge to the mainstream of the series. The story starts in 1692 in the Indian Ocean and goes back to 320 BC.
The plot of the story is based on the captains, pirates and their ships. The story talks about the sea wars, fights involving loots, kidnappings, ransoms and sinking of the captains, pirates and ships respectively. It runs in different phases.
It will take you to the ancient secrets of Egyptian people, the letters they left every 30 years for their generation which are passed from generation-to-generation by their heirs.
The characters of Captain Ramirez (Roughbeard) and Carlos are well weaved and presented. All the characters are energetic, impressive and apt.
The narration of the story is quite catching and impressive. You can literally visualise everything happening in the book and beautiful imagery is created. There are sea adventures, thrill and suspense in the book and the author has left no room of vagueness in the narration.
This is a short read with the well researched and creative plotline. You will not be disappointed with the book. I have read such a story for the very first time and I am in love with this book.
The story is fast-paced and athletic. The languages easy to follow. The cover is attractive and eye-catching. Overall, the author has done a great job.
