Highlights of being Kind, Brave, Inclusive, and Responsible have been subtly woven into the playful poetic verses. The vibrant illustrations by Corrina Holyoake have captured the imagination of many children during storytime. Its Brooke Lynn’s 1st day of school.
Mom packed my lunch & walked with me out to the bus.
The teacher introduced herself & started in with the 1st assignment.
It was time for lunch.
Art class was next.
The bus took us home, & mom fixed me a snack.

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn black & white or colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (elementary; MS age) storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation, movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Brooke Lynn is nervous and excited about her first day of school. She receives assurance from her mother, but can’t wait for the bus ride, meeting new friends, learning new things, and greeting her new teacher.

Throughout the day, Brooke Lynn displays her manners, kindness, and caring for others. She is polite and eager to learn. At the end of her day, she proudly shares with her mother and prepares eagerly for the days to come.

This book is written in rhyme. There are simple colorful illustrations opposite the text. This book was a bit difficult to read even when enlarged on my Kindle Fire. That might be a discouragement to beginning readers. I would recommend the book for ages five through eight. It might be a good choice for a read-aloud preparation for beginning or entering a new school.

“My Lil’ First School” by Toby Williams is the perfect picture book to help youngsters prepare for their school experience. Using a series of 4-line rhymes opposite charming illustrations by Corrina Holyoake, the book addresses uncertainties youngsters face as they transition to the classroom.

With Brooke Lynn as a role model, children learn how she prepares the night before and wakes early on her big day to catch the bus. At school, her teacher’s warm smile eases the way, with art class and making new friends further dissipating her worries.

Comprehension questions at the end of the book help children process what they read. Highly recommend My Lil’ First School for early readers It’s a delightful tale that lays the foundation for a positive school experience.

First day of school

This book follows Brooke Lynne on her first day of school, as she boards the bus, eats lunch, and participates in art class. The book is written in rhyme, which seemed a little forced in places, but overall a sweet story with cute illustrations.

A Charming Story!

This book is a charming story about a young girl’s first experience with school. Written in verse, the author takes the reader on a journey of Brook Lynn’s excitement, fear, and anxiety about starting school. The reader is able to see Brook Lynne as she prepares for school the night before, puts her best foot forward on the day of, and continues with a positive attitude on the second day. Her behavior is both consistent and commendable throughout the story. And the comprehension questions at the end make this a perfect addition to an early childhood classroom.

Story to help children transition from home to school smoothly

This story followed a little girl from staying at home with her family to starting her first day of school. It shows a child how to handle a new environment, emotions, and how to be kind to new friends who seem to be needing a bit of kindness. I would highly recommend this to be shared with children who are transitioning to a new environment of learning!

A trip to the first day of school

Brooke Lynn’s first day of school is a detailed trip through Brooke’s emotional and physical lead up, day of, and post-day of her first day. It really allows the reader to feel a sense of calm and acceptance in how he/she may be anxious prior to the day... while providing encouragement and hope about what is yet to come! A great read for kids (and parents) prior to “The First Big Day!”

Brings back childhood memories

Such a sweet rhyming story of the excitement of the first day of school. The author makes it so much fun from the items needed to a special song sung. She eases the minds of little ones by showing them how much fun school can be. Illustrations are cute as well. Highly recommend. -Mandy

Sweet story.

Sweet story of a girl named Brooke Lynn who is just starting to go to school. Brooke Lynn is nervous about school but once she takes the bus and meets new friends she can’t wait to go back. (I loved the part where she notices a boy sitting next to her that had no snack at snack time and she shares her snacks with him)
