It all started one day in March of 2018. I was bored. There was nothing to watch on television. And the moment of silence prompted a memory. A flashback to a time I wrote movies in a notebook. Small scenes jotted down for no particular reason. Something compelled me to make a move. I jumped up and ran to my computer, anxious to tell a story of which I could see clearly. The scenes of my cleverly crafted idea so wildly vivid. A face. A name. And twisted plots that would rival any movie.
I began typing. The keystrokes were fervent. Soon one sentence gave way to twenty. One hundred words grew to seventeen thousand. And before I knew it, I had a short story. Proof that anything is possible. So, you might ask if I always wanted to be a writer? Was it somewhere in the back of my mind? No! It wasn’t. But I knew I was creative. And I knew I could tell a story. The rest is history. Now I can say I wrote a book that became a best seller. Downloaded for many book lovers to read and enjoy. And the journey is still fresh. There is so much more to write. I am just getting started!
The storyline and theme was good, but was poorly executed. It seemed to be a bunch of separate plot notes put together with loose detail in editing. Some of the background facts were repeated ad nauseam, but the details were inconsistent and contradictory. The story event timelines were often inconsistent - going from days to weeks to months then back to days again. For a reader who pays attention to details it was annoying. I also didn't like the use of bad grammar and non standard English words in the narrative (meaning not as dialogue because that's understandable); specifically, the use of 'conversating' and 'squoze'. I started to put the book down several times but kept going just to see if it would get better so I could leave an honest review, but it did not improve. I enjoy urban fiction, but this type of writing just gives good indie authors a bad wrap. Smokey, you need to get a better editing and review crew or pay more attention to their notes and feedback; I'm not sure which, but this was very poorly written.
I loved the cover of the book. The synopsis of the book made me feel like the book was gonna be a thriller but this book was boring. The first chapter was 20 something pages of speaking in third person. With a couple of dialogues from the characters. I read up to the third chapter and it was pretty much the same.
The Twin by Smokey Moment is the kind of book that lingers. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. This was my first time diving into this author’s work, and I can confidently say it won’t be the last.
I was swept into the lives of Bella, Niles, and Noah, and the complicated, deeply emotional web they’re entangled in. This isn’t just a love story. It’s a story about humanity flawed, raw, heartbreaking, and beautiful.
What truly stood out was the twin dynamic between Niles and Noah. Their bond is unshakable and layered with pain, loyalty, and unconditional love. The emotional weight of their relationship hit me hard it felt real in the best and most painful ways.
Bella and Niles? They were meant to be. And Noah? He knew it. Watching their story unfold was like witnessing real life on the page full of love, disappointment, betrayal, heartbreak, and ultimately, forgiveness.
The characters aren’t perfect and that’s what makes them unforgettable. Smokey Moment doesn’t shy away from exploring the messiness of life: hurt, betrayal, sadness, and the power of forgiveness. She captures every shade of love both romantic and familial with striking honesty.
I also found it interesting that she left out explicit racial identifiers. Perhaps it was intentional to let any reader see themselves in the story. Whatever the reason, it added a unique universal touch to a deeply personal tale.
If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel really feel this is the one. A true page turner with heart, soul, and characters you won’t forget.
Reading this book was definitely an emotional roller coaster for me because I felt the family drama on a person level. The father meant well be he really pissed me off because he wanted to control his kids life. He even wanted his son Noah to marry a woman he didn’t love because it would be good business. That really drove Noah away and I really don’t blame him because he does that. Then it was Niles the other twin who was the opposite of Noah. He went alone just to get alone and he tried to get Noah to forgive his father but it didn’t work. The Drama starts when these twins are in Las Vegas for their birthday. Noah meets Bella who brushes him of so he ask Niles to help him win her over . When push comes to shove Niles ends up falling in love for the first time ever but it was the woman his brother had his eye on . So he walks away to allow his brother to be happy. Noah ends up marrying Bella but she realize something was different but she just couldn’t put her finger on it. Her marriage starts to get rocky when she tells Noah she wants to be a mother. He is faced with telling her the truth which is he can’t have children or calling on his brother once again. He calls on his brother and once again Niles comes through and once again Bella is in love again . Things become difficult when Niles is not ready to leave Bella so him in Noah gets into a fight that causes Noah his life and that is when Bella realizes she has been dealing with twins!!!!!!
I skipped a lot, didn’t think Noah deserved to die. The story was weak. They made it seem like Noah was the sht but Niles was better, if Noah so was great, why she ain’t like him? It was confusing. Niles was supposedly more serious and not open but Noah came with jokes and opened but she still wasn’t happy? That was weird. Niles was some how the gentleman type but wasn’t being a gentleman to all the other women he was bedding? Wasn’t cooking or nothing but Noah turns out to be the not so soft one? No, then I’m thinking it’s gone end with a twist that Noah was actually still alive playing Niles because he learned how to play his brother well n ended up with the wife n kids still but no, boring..
This book has a great storyline. Very original plot. The last two-thirds had me unable to put the book down. However, the first part of the book was a slow burn. It took FOREVER to get to the main plot. The author gave so much background info that most of it was very repetitive. So many women were introduced that the reader has no idea when the MFC will actually be introduced. It also needs some major editing. The errors seemed to get worse as the book went on. It was still a good read.
So I always say, if I finish the book I must have liked it! I finished the book! I will say that it was a slow start. Most of the background given in the first chapters were mostly of Noah and his relationship with his dad, would have loved more. I did get a little confused when the writer told of how the dad feel ill. Wasn't sure if that happened in the past or present?? However it was a good read!
This was a great read. I really didn’t know what to expect when reading this how would it be different than the norm. This book gave everything the storyline was good and kept my attention. I’m mad they had her thinking she was crazy I was so hoping that the younger twin would give up. I know It was hard for Nike being called your brother name that’s some strong love .I hate he died but they dang daddy was a piece of work great job giving us something different
I had no clue what this book would entail, but was surprisingly very good. This book and story were so interesting, that it kept me reading and trying to figure out what was happening next. I highly recommend reading this book, it’s easy to follow with many surprises. Niles and Bella’s loves for each other was strong and you found yourself rooting for them. Until Noah dies and you felt their pain. Very good book.
I almost gave this book 4 stars due to a lot of repetitive descriptions. However, the little twist I encountered with the twins made up for it. I expected the typical switch, but it turned out to be so much deeper. Definitely a recommended read. Try to look past the repetition and you you will enjoy it.
This book was an awesome read. I truly enjoyed it. It had it moments I mean that in a good way. There was happy, sad, loving, unpredictable, lots of different emotions was in this story. It is one that I will surely reread in the future. Keep up the awesome writing. You are truly AMAZING.
This was a phenomenal read! Twins fall in love with the same woman unintentionally! The woman thinks she’s crazy because of the personality change. The only thing was why didn’t Noah except her to want a baby once they were married! The other characters issues just brought everything together! The ending was perfect! I’m officially a fan of this author!!
I Never Read Anything By This Author, But Trust & Believe He Just Won Over Another Fan💯🎯💯 This Book Had So Many Twist & Turns, But It Was A GREAT READ!!! I Stayed At The End Of My Sit, Cuz I Just Had To Know What Was Going To Go Down Next....I Give This Book A 10 Out Of 10!!!
The story line was amazing and it had so much potential but it fell short. There were a lot of inconsistencies as well as I feel the character development was lacking. As well as the structure of the story itself. Still completed and hate what happened to Noah but so happy Bella and Niles got their happy ending
I wanted to love this book down, but it was all over the place. Too much telling, not enough actually dialogue and showing to move the story. Too much description. So much so to where I found myself going back a few pages to even remember what the dialogue was about. It’s a good start. I’d want to reread this after the author works with a good editing team.
I had high hopes for this book, but it ultimately fell flat for me. The characters lacked depth and never really came to life on the page, making it hard to connect or care about their journeys. The storyline also felt underwhelming which left me disappointed rather than engaged. Overall, it just didn’t deliver the richness or impact I was looking for.
Smokey, good read. My first read by you. I love the way you showed unconditional love for a sibling. I also appreciated how you showed truth about Power and what it can do when it's not handled properly. Showing the things that can happen in their situations were so good. Ill be delving into your catalog🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I really enjoyed this story, The Twins Niles & Noah Langley were inseparable, they had each other’s back when it came to everything. Noah was the independent twin while Nile did everything his father wanted him to do. When it came to love they were very different. Great Love story. Highly recommend.
This was good read. Unbelievable how some woman can be so ratchet and theme are no better. Great read about friends and family. Finished the book the same day I started. Great read
Truly liked this book! I could relate to some of the Twins antics, simply because my Twin & I acted out at times when we were in our earlier years (LOL)! Keep up the good work Smokey!
I really enjoyed the book. The story line was different but nostalgic. I think it’s a book for all 20 through 92 years old Great read. I wanted a more detailed description of everyone that was my only disappointment
I don't know I had mixed feelings on this one, even though it was a good read, there was a kind of sadness and betrayal that hat me feeling off, and I guess when you loose a child that was a twin,it hit me kind of wrong. But I did like the book.
The story was confusing and hard to follow. The plot was way too slow and demise. There were also a lot of grammatical errors. I was bored and confused by the end of the story.
This book was intriguing. I wish it included a little more smut to it. I have my book club reading it. Can't wait to hear their thoughts on it. There are 5 of us and most of the times there is 5 different versions
The story line was different ❤ I was pulled in by the dynamics between the brothers.. Their antics were shady. The sex scenes were hot and steamy. I didn't like the misprint of words. But I definitely want to read more by Smokey..
It maybe just me. I dont think I like this type of writing style. It wasn’t as smooth and free flowing. There was a LOT of repeats about each family members history. And I also feel bad with saying this. It was predictable. 😢
I never heard of this author but saw quite a few rave reviews and had to check them out. This book was really good. Didn't see the ending coming but it was so good. New fan.
