This is a remarkable book. While a middle-aged man is not the target audience, the richness of the text and profundity of Maggie’s message makes this a must read. “This Life We Share” will without question become This BOOK we share.

I'm in the middle of Maggie Wallem Rowe's "This Life We Share" and am savoring the rich prose, poignant stories, and eternal perspective of its 52 reflections. This is an ideal read during our extended "staycation," or for savoring--one reflection at a time--over the course of a year. However you enjoy it, you will grow wiser in the presence of this godly guide, better able to navigate this life we share.

This book is a breath of fresh air. It encouraged me on every page. I was inspired by how this author shared situations from her own life about what she realized and faced being on the front line of ministry over the years. Her insight about living in a fishbowl while raising her family and working outside the home was eye opening. I enjoyed Maggie’s Ten Commandments of Friendship taken from scripture – here is one of them, “A Friend loves at all times” Prov 17: 17. This author shows healthy boundaries and balance in relationships we do not talk enough about. I was inspired by many of the LifeLine mantras at the end of each chapter. Like this one, “

LIFELINE “The power in prayer is not in the words themselves or in the ones who pray but rather in the one who hears us. Even when you can’t see him at work, you can trust his loving and good intentions toward you.”

This book is one I will be reading again and again. The first time I read the whole thing through. The next stopping and digging deeper into the chapters, looking up the scripture references.
.
The author has a section called Points of Connections. They are wonderful examples of how we can apply scripture into everyday life. This section is designed for reflection. The author shares her story out of a grateful, non-judgmental, non-preachy heart. I liked her practical and doable tips. I was encouraged by her candidness and how she shared what it looks like to walk out the word of God in a real, messy world, realizing no one is perfect (including our self).

This book helps readers discover Lifelines of their own, as they get to know themselves and their maker, inspiring them to create on-going conversations with God and others. I adored the Lifelines at the end of the chapters, with all that we are currently facing in our homes, jobs and world this is a light in the darkness.

I was inspired by the courage of this author to share her heart and talk about some sensitive subjects often overlooked. It is an uplifting read, and a good resource for these confusing times.

This was the book that got me reading again during the COVID-19 pandemic. I couldn't get through anything, and then I discovered This Life We Share, and Maggie Rowe. And I felt very quickly like I had found a new, good friend. That's what makes this book work so very well. Short essays -- with reflective questions at the end -- tackle wide-ranging topics like friendships to parenting to loneliness to mentoring and on. The short pieces touch on the deeply personal as well as the professional as Maggie shares insights and tips from her life within the home, the Church and the workplace. One of the things that makes this book work so well -- those lovely short essay-style chapters -- is also what will make it hard to slot into one neat category. This is not a devotional, yet it could be read like one. It's not a memoir, yet it includes rich and insightful memories. It's not a 'how-to' and yet it definitely will help readers find their way through many situations and life stages. This book is its own wonderful combination of all of the above, and that was just fine with me.

If I had to narrow my review of This Life We Share to two words, I would describe it as gentle wisdom. I love how Maggie Wallem Rowe shares spiritual truths wrapped in practical ideas for life. The book contains 52 reflections on topics like dealing with anxiety, coping with criticism, finding peace in pain, being a friend of God, and how to live well as a spouse, parent, or single person. Each reflection includes a Scripture verse, Maggie's personal stories and wisdom, plus "points of connection"--practical ways to implement that wisdom. I loved Maggie's Ten Commandments of Friendship--that alone is worth the price of the book. Reading this book tuned my heart to the sureness of God's love and His promise of peace.

This book was exactly what I needed. It feeds my soul. Maggie Rowe shares about topics that relate to all of us; as I read each chapter, I kept finding myself thinking, “you, too?” She voices the things that so many of us feel and think, things that sometimes tie us up in knots, and then she brings clarity and wisdom. She communicates in a way that is intensely honest, beautiful, and authentic, weaving masterful storytelling with application to everyday life. I finished each chapter feeling challenged and encouraged and more grateful for who God is and what He has done for us. Thank you, Maggie. This book is a gift.

I have always loved Maggie's writing. She has a way of drawing you in and making you feel like she is speaking directly to you. This book is no exception. It's almost like a conversation with a friend in which you realize you are being encouraged in your faith every step of the way. I love her personal examples, the quotes she has chosen, the questions after each section, and the way she really does call us to action practically and spiritually. Every one of her 52 reflections speaks to me and I am absolutely sure will speak to other readers as well. I highly recommend This Life We Share!

In this surreal time of social distancing and isolation, we hunger for relationships, time with friends, and quality conversations. "This Life We Share" is an excellent read, a heartfelt guide, and an inspiration to us all. Maggie pours her heart into each word and even though she finished writing this book long before any of us heard of a pandemic, "This Life We Share" is truly written 'for such a time as this.' I highly recommend this book - buy one for yourself and lots for your friends. I did!!

THIS LIFE WE SHARE is thoughtful, hopeful, and helpful. Maggie Rowe is an excellent writer, which makes this book a joy to read. My highest marks go to authors who earn what I call the 'trust' factor - a perspective that demonstrates a firm grasp of reality and hope at the same time. Maggie's got it. I used to work with Maggie, and she's the real deal. THIS LIFE WE SHARE is a book you'll want to purchase for family and friends.

My daughter-in-law gave me this book to read and I am finding it to be a blessing and an encouragement —especially during this time of “staying at home”. Maggie speaks honestly from her heart about issues that we’ve all faced at one time or another. The words and scriptures shared are refreshing to my soul, and strengthening to my walk with God.

Written straight from the heart—to the hearts of all of us, whatever age or stage of life. Maggie is such an honest, vulnerable, even funny writer that the book feels like a chat with a good friend. With 53 short chapters which can be read in any order, it’s a great choice for busy women. I just ordered a box full—Mother’s Day gifts for my daughters, gifts for Spring birthdays....Come to think of it, I need to order more!

Have you been looking for a devotional, written with a woman’s sensitivities by a woman of integrity, (with a degree in biblical studies) and with real-life forged wisdom?

This Life We Share starts by touching the heart but there is so much more. Each day’s reading ends with Scripture laden “Points of Connection” and a wise truth, a “Lifeline” for further reflection.
This Life We Share is an excellent choice as a guide for groups or personal devotions.

Relatable, readable, replete with eternal truths to live by, This Life We Share satisfies the longings to be fed from the riches found in the Bible through a life well-lived – author Maggie Rowe.

I've never posted a review for anything else, but this book is just so good! It's also my mom's! So I'm thoroughly biased.

If you're looking for some daily encouragement, or for a book to journey through with a friend, my mom's conversational style will make you feel like she's in the room with you, just talking about life. (And, be honest, in a time of quarantine, we all need that!) My mom cares deeply about people and it shows in everything she does. She's also a keen student of Scripture so you'll find her words are also full of biblical truth.

This Life We Share by Maggie Wallem Rowe is a beautiful read. She shares 52 reflection on journeying well with God and others.
Admittedly, I chose to read this book because I met Maggie last year and was so impressed with her grace and knowledge.
Maggie shares from her heart throughout the book. The stories address issues from fear, self-doubt, comparison and worry. I am confident that one of these stories will connect with you as they did with me. Having met Maggie who is graceful and poised, I chuckled when she shared about her reactions when someone else got a position she wanted.

You will also find encouragement. One of my favorite lines “…know you have been given power through the blood of Christ to turn, confront and defeat the enemy”

I have a friend who lost her husband so the chapter on Where Do You Go to Get Warm was very impactful for me. “When people hear about difficulty in your life, their brains search like computer for a connection. Because they don’t know what to say… they tent to blurt out the first ‘search result’ that comes up. “ Oh how I have probably done that. Please have grace for us. Maggie goes on to share what we can do: Extend the ministry of presence and listen and be present.

Personally I was impacted by the ‘More Ways Than One to be a Mom’. Maggie encourages us that don’t have our own children to mother spiritual children. “someone might be praying for a ‘mom’ just like you”

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

When I'm reading Maggie Wallem Rowe's new book, I feel like I'm sitting with a trusted friend who's been there, who is honest about the pain and heartache of life, but who also knows the peace and joy and hope that might just surprise us. This book isn't "advice." Rather, Rowe offers wisdom for the journey without being preachy. Those of us in midlife or older will find ourselves in many of the experiences offered in this book, but it's just as much for those in their younger years who can get a glimpse of what lies ahead before they get there. This would be a great gift!

Maggie has spent decades following Jesus -- as a pastor’s wife, co-worker, mother, daughter, and friend. Now she puts pen to page to share the wisdom she’s learned along the way. Maggie has a gift for seeing the world and finding meaning in ordinary days, capturing it in delightful prose. She also has the gift of insight, the ability to harness her own self-awareness and for the good of others. In this book, you’ll find more than good advice; I expect you’ll find a new friend.

Wisdom for intentional living that aligns our lives with God’s truth is the gift of journeying well with God, ourselves, and others.

So often, this is easier said than done, isn’t it? We find ourselves in situations that don’t go according to plan, relationships don’t always go smoothly, the stress of work skews our priorities, or sometimes we feel distant from God. These are the days we need the encouragement of a wise friend to remember that we are not alone.

Maggie Wallem Rowe is one of those friends we all need along life’s journey. She is someone who writes to remind us of the truths that are easy to forget:

“Life has its epic adventures, but the dailiness of it doesn’t consist of grand moments. Rather, we live in the everyday rhythms of the intentional choices we make. Paying attention to our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Caring for others and being cared for in return. Loving God and receiving his unconditional live and fathomless grace.”

In her book, This Life We Share: 52 Reflections on Journeying Well with God and Others, Maggie writes about many situations common to life, sharing a life-line of wisdom learned in her own journey with God. Each reflection is beautifully written and Maggie’s personality reaches through the words like the arm of a friend reaching around your shoulders. Here are a few of my favorite of Maggie’s reminders to choose well in our own journeys.

Not feeling good enough?
“God has designed a unique path for you. No one can walk it as well as you can.”

Struggling to shed shame?
“Shame does not come from God. In Christ the bonds that tied you to past pain have been broken. Walk in freedom.”

Trying to kick anxiety to the curb?
“Worry and concern can feel like conjoined twins, but prayer has the power to sever the connection.”

Joy eluding you?
“We cannot generate feelings of joy out of sheer will power, but we can stay connected to the Source of all joy.”

Searching for peace in a painful situation?
“Peace in the midst of pain is not just possible–it’s a promise!”

Tired of waiting?
“Sometimes what we wait for is not as eternally significant as what God wants to do in us as we wait.”

Hoping for a positive outcome?
“God lives in the gap between what could have been and what is. Leave the outcome to him. “

I received a promotional copy of the book from the publisher. This is my honest review of the book.

In this book, Maggie Wallem Rowe encourages her readers with personal stories and Scriptural reflections. As an older woman, she is fulfilling her calling to encourage and guide other women, and she does so in an inclusive, helpful way. This book is great for singles, married women, and those who have experienced divorce or lost a spouse. Rowe acknowledges all of these different experiences and life stages, and in addition to writing about more typically addressed topics like marriage and parenting, she also writes in detail about friendships and about her experiences in the workforce.

This book features fifty-two different devotionals, divided into four parts. The first two parts focus on the internal life, the third is full of good advice for different types of relationships, and the fourth part focuses specifically on our relationship with God. Rowe covers a variety of different topics throughout the book, and concludes each reflection with questions for a reader to ponder and related Scripture references for them to look up. This book is a great option for a devotional, and can also work in larger chunks. I slowed down my usual reading pace to soak this in, but read several reflections at a time. I enjoyed Rowe's vivid personal stories, and appreciate her gift for drawing out applications from ordinary, everyday experiences.

Rowe addresses so many different topics, emotions, struggles, and life stages that there is something here for everyone, no matter their life stage. I appreciate Rowe's vulnerability to share so many personal stories, and I recommend this to any woman who is looking for a well-written, encouraging devotional or guide to the Christian life. This is a great resource with broad appeal and application, and I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I walk a lot. And though often it’s just my dogs and me out there, some of my favorite, most memorable hours are spent hiking fields, trails, and country roads with friends. They always show up beautiful, these women, and diverse: wise and honest. Humble. Vulnerable, curious, unique. Loving, interesting, funny, smart. Brave, devoted. Selfless. Authentic.

I now count author Maggie Wallem Rowe as one of them. Though our hikes were figurative rather than literal, we headed out together fifty-two times as I read each chapter of her new book: This Life We Share: 52 Reflections on Journeying Well with God and with Others.

Maggie’s a “woman of a certain age,” just as I am. Were I younger, I’d seek her out as a mentor—a relational trailblazer who could teach me, by her example, how to live out each of the traits I mention above. I’d buy her book as a trail-guide in which she addresses topics relevant for a lifetime: worry, faith, friendship, perseverance, joy, calling, pain, anxiety, busyness, parenting, grief, prayer . . . and many, many more, each filled with mile-markers of wisdom and humor.

But as her agemate, I’ll hold her book close as a sister, trusting her support and friendship, just as I would if she were joining me in person for a four-mile loop. I’ll again connect with her stories. Ponder her questions at the end of each reflection as if we were chatting. I may even answer her aloud—about life and love, failings and hopes, repentance and renewal.

I’ll hear her encourage me to press on.

Thank you, Maggie. I hope your book arrives like a welcome visit under trees and in stockings everywhere.

When one of God’s women pauses on her fruitful way, takes up a pen, and begins sharing the harvested wisdom from her faithful following, I’m all ears. Maggie Wallem Rowe has experienced ministry on the front lines as a pastor’s wife, a speaker, and now in This Life We Share: 52 Reflections on Journeying Well with God and Others, the stories of a lifetime have been gathered in fifty-two inspirational reflections, paired with scripture, and followed by searching questions.
Rowe is careful to mark both successes and failures along the way, demonstrating that there are fruitful lessons to be had from both. Leadership tidbits include the 3D Concept for soul care (Decide, Delegate, and Delete!) and from her own wrenching experiences with anxiety, she provides hope and help in facing down the bullying power of worry with an offering of positive, expulsive habits.
Women of faith who have been called to write come alongside readers with the quiet enthusiasm of a traveling companion and the faithful wisdom that comes with devotion to the hard work of laying down words, one after the other. Whether married or single, whether a seasoned traveler or just barely beginning on the journey, we really do need each other as we practice resurrection and fulfill our “long obedience” on the uneven terrain of this pathway through life with God.

Many thanks to NavPress for providing a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which, of course, is offered freely and with honesty.
