Lavinia Riker Davis (1906-1961) was the author of over forty books, published under her own name, and the pseudonym Wendell Farmer. She wrote picture-books, children's novels, and both juvenile and adult mysteries. She also wrote short stories, many of them published in children's magazines such as St Nicholas.
Two of her picture-books, Roger and the Fox (1948) and The Wild Birthday Cake (1950), both illustrated by Hildegard Woodward, were Caldecott Honor Books.
