I have always enjoyed reading David Ellis' work. His poetry is simple and yet packed with emotions.
With "See a Dream Within: Found "Poe"try Based On The Collected Poetry Works Of Edgar Allan Poe," David has outdone himself. I love the way he uses words and phrases from Poe's poems to reframe them and give them new meanings. The result is a fascinating read that will leave you wanting more.
This is a short collection. Most poems are only a few lines long. But you will find yourself reading them over and over. And every time, you will discover a new message.
One of the best books I have read this year!

Book 105 of my Goodreads Challenge 2019
This is a wonderful book a modern re-working of the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe. Using Poe's words new poems have been skillfully crafted and are a joy to behold. Well worth checking out.
The Angel on Her Flight
Inspired by the poem 'Lenore.'
The golden spirit
forever floats, rigid
be read, be sung
an anthem for the young

“See A Dream Within,” is a collection of poetry created by the author using a form called “Found Poetry.” That means the existing poems, stories, plays, and other written works by Edgar Allan Poe are the source materials. The author then removed certain words or phrases to create new poetry.
This is a fascinating poetic form. I gained a rare insight into the author’s psyche by reading the new interpretations of Poe’s work.
For me, the best way to experience the differences between the two poems was to read the original works and then to read Ellis’ “found poetry.”
“A Dream,” by EDGAR ALLAN POE
In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed—
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.
Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?
That holy dream—that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.
What though that light, thro’ storm and night,
So trembled from afar—
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth’s day-star?

“Things with a Past” (A Found Poem Inspired by “A Dream” by Edgar Allan Poe)
The joy of life and light
Cast on things with a past
While all the world, cheered and trembled
What could be more purely bright?
Truth
From Ellis, David. See A Dream Within: Found “Poe”try Based On The Collected Poetry Works Of Edgar Allan Poe (p. 2). Independently Published. Kindle Edition.
Ellis shares his poetic inspiration, realized from the writings of the master storyteller and poet by infusing them with his own perceptions. I took my time with this book, enjoying the journey between the two interpretations. There is a profound gentleness in this author’s prose.
I’ve also enjoyed Ellis’ other books, too. Lovers of all poetry forms will enjoy this literary remix of Poe’s work. It’s priced right at only $.99.

Full review is now up! Read on Armed with A Book.
This was my first time reading 'found poetry', and I really enjoyed reading it. The poems were short and abundant and made me curious about the original works that inspired David to write them. I'll be going back to Poe's work when I write my full review.
This collection touches upon love, romance, loneliness, growing up, amongst other things. Two of poems that stood out to me:
~ The Riddle - It made me think of how, even when we meet the right person for us, it is circumstantial for when we find them... the point in our lives that we are at. David has a beautiful way of describing this, inspired by Poe's A Valentine.
~ Those Heros - This one made me think about war heroes and their relation to the origins of the wars they are fighting.
This was quick, relaxing, at times thought provoking read. I am thankful to the author for providing me a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I would recommend fans of Edgar Allan Poe, and anyone interested in short poetry, to definitely pick up this collection.
