I have used this book for research over the last decade, diving in on a variety of topics. A group of friends decided to read and discuss it this year. Along the way, we found a few errors and oversights, but for the most part, I am impressed with how comprehensive the book is. It was also far ahead of its time (1976) in covering African American and women’s history. Could more have been included? absolutely! But it’s not bad for almost 50 years ago. It remains an extremely valuable volume of local history.

This is a Bible for all things related to Fairfax County, Virginia history. It has saved me on a number of occasions, such as when cross-referencing terms. For example, the Doag Indians/ Native Americans are alternately spelled Toag, Taux, and Dogue. This book helped me find material on those people by using the alternate spellings when even Google didn't turn up anything for Doag. It's very handy to have around for anyone doing research on this area.

Written in 1976 for the bicentennial. Mostly statistics. The little bit of history is swarmed with progressive ideology.
