I suppose the title says it all but why have I never heard of this guy? He stormed the beach a Normandy, General Patton personally saw to his being named an Army Officer (the first African American army officer EVER), he got a PhD, was a teacher....and he grew up in rural Alabama at a time when the KKK was hanging people for any and every possible made up reason essential for sport. I suspect the title is a nod to his continued humbleness and a nod to others like him that we of course don’t learn about in history class but Jefferson Wiggins is an American hero. I hope other people will see this review and read this book. Pass it on. It’s time these “forgotten” heroes became a little less forgotten.
