Book review for USA Destinations with Arthur the dog
November 14, 2019
Format: Kindle Edition
Arthur the dog is traveling again! This is the second book in what is turning out to be a delightful series for young readers and listeners. The first book was about places around the world to visit and learning about them.

This second book in the series explores destinations in America! America has so much to offer with beautiful places to visit.

The author goes into details like traveling on an airplane at the airport. I liked the first picture showing the inside of the airport. Not all children have experienced riding in an airplane so this would be a great conversation starter of how to arrive at different places besides driving a car or riding a bus or train.

Arthur the dog visits very fun places. The areas are illustrated very nicely and easy to understand the main points of each destination.

I also like the rhyming throughout the book which makes it easy to read and listen to.

Some of the places I have been to which is kind of fun! Yosemite national park, Golden Gate bridge & Manhattan!!

The author did a nice job including a few things in each illustration to highlight the area. Mount Rushmore is really noted for the presidents carved in the mountain.

Yellowstone is noted for the geysers and especially the largest one Old Faithful. I did not know that half the World geysers are there at Yellowstone! A couple animals you might see like the bison and moose are shown.

Niagara Falls is next on the agenda. Imagine taking a boat underneath the falls while learning about the falls!

The Golden Gate bridge in California is very famous. And very large! One would expect to see seagulls along the water and by the bridge.

I like the description about the Grand Canyon. There is a lot to learn about its natural aspects. And a bald eagle is flying in the illustration. I think each destination prompts interest and one can explore with a young child more about that destination.

It’s wonderful that America has the natural wonders but a city like Manhattan has its appeal too!! From tall skyscrapers to Central Park it is definitely a city of contrast visually as well as culturally.

Last covered are Yosemite national park and the Florida Keys. Going from mountains and camping to a beautiful warm climate with islands to explore.

The variety of destinations in this book is fabulous! They are all well-known destinations that I think Americans are proud of and tourists love to visit.

The reader and young child will enjoy learning about these destinations through the rhyming words and colorful illustrations. Using the dog Arthur as a tour guide it is very appealing.

I have given this book 5 stars and feel it’s worth the read while definitely providing an enjoyable learning experience.

This is the second book I have in this series. I read it in KU and loved it so much, I bought it to read to my grandkids.

In book 2, our favorite traveling dog, Arthur, explores the United States. He travels from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to the Florida Keys with lots of famous tourist spot stops in between.

The illustrations are vivid and captivating. There are bonus coloring pages included at the end of the book. In a few short rhymes, the author conveys what’s special about each landmark.

I recommend this delightful book for families, preschools, daycare providers, and for gift-giving.

I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

Meet Arthur the dog. He's in an airport heading to Departures. His destination? First stop, Mount Rushmore followed by Yellowstone, Niagara Falls, Golden Gate Bridge and the list goes on.

Written in rhyme, this book is easy to read along with being colorful, keeping a child's attention. At the end there are four coloring pages all, of course, featuring Arthur. GREAT book for young children.

I was provided a copy of this book by the author. Thanks, Liz
