Four bestselling authors have contributed a short story based on an eyebrow raising secret. Each author's story is written in his unique style and based on whatever setting he chose...as long as it involves a secret that will leave readers speechless. And they did not disappoint.
Bestselling Author, Brian W. Smith, known for his mind-blowing plot twists, gets things started with a story titled, Booby-trap. The story is about Mitchell Vincent, struggling writer by day, Uber driver by night. Mitchell discovers his ambitious wife, Tasha, is cheating on him. Things go from bad to worse when Mitchell starts snooping through Tasha's things and discovers the date, place, and time of her rendezvous with her lover. After considering every approach to dealing with his discovery, Mitchell settles on an approach he feels is the most clever and will give him the vindication he deserves. That's when the "booby-trap" is set...and all hell breaks loose.
The second story in this anthology is served up by one of the hottest Suspense/Thriller writers in the literary world, Bestselling Author, Brandon Massey. Brandon's story is titled, The Host. On the verge of divorce, Dante and Nicole attempt to rekindle their marriage by renting a secluded beach property for a romantic getaway. But once they settle in at the seaside villa, they realize the "host" has them under surveillance and has discovered their most closely guarded secrets - secrets that could destroy their already fragile marriage...and move them to literally destroy each other.
Bestselling Author, Blacc Topp, serves up a tale titled, Skeletons. The story centers on a wheel-chair bound man named, Jarvis Lane, who raises his two nephews to be respectable young men. With one nephew stepping into the workforce and the other entering his final year in college, Jarvis assumes his job is done...but his assumption is wrong. Jarvis is about to be introduced to an unavoidable fact; just when you think you've buried the past, your "skeletons" have a way of creeping out of the closet and haunting you.
NAACP Image Award winning writer, Dwayne Alexander Smith, closes out this anthology with a story titled, You Can't Know This. Former model, Racine Mills, finally meets the man of her dreams - wealthy Nigerian businessman, Winston Sabo. After a few months of dating, Winston proposes to Racine and offers to take her from rags to riches. Racine accepts the proposal even though it came with one interesting string attached...she can live like a queen and enjoy her new wealth, but his luxurious oceanfront home that they will share has a room in the basement that she can never enter. If that was the only obstacle standing in the way of going from rags to riches, Racine saw it as an easy request to live with...until she starts to suspect that Winston has a lot of dark secrets. She suspects he's more than a "businessman" and the answers to her questions can be found in the locked forbidden room. Curiosity can be a gift and a curse. Racine's curiosity is urging her to risk a fairy tale lifestyle by breaking her millionaire fiance's one rule...is it worth it?
so i don't remember any of the titles for these stories. but i remember how they made me feel.
the last story... creepy as hell! and i loved it! winston was a creep from his first interaction with racine. i still have chills from this story.
the third story... i love how the boys were named after Malcolm X and MLK. I also love how the brother who was named after Malcolm behaved more like Mlk and vice versa. the plot twist tho!! jaw dropping. loved the way this one ended!
the second story...creepy as hell! this particular story made me not to ever want to tap into wifi anywhere outside my home! it made me leery of airbnb sites and homes too
the first story...the trifling behavior/ drama exhibited in this story was on 10! i suspected it was.... and my suspicion was confirmed!
I have read all of theses authors individually but this anthology was inspirational on a whole nother level. Each author brought their secret to the table. EYECU approved.
Backfire by Brian W. Smith Oh I peeped early on, this cat right here is mad sick with the word flow. I always knew of Brian but never got around to checking out his work. Better believe, I'm about to make time to hit up his catalogue! Now, I definitely didn't expect that Plot twist. I didn't see that coming at all. Tasha, she was one ungrateful garden tool. She was also selfish AF. I really hated the cards that Mitch was dealt. He was there 100 for Tasha to make sure she succeeded, no matter how long the process. ✋🏽 I was about to give this long speech about how Mitch is so loving and caring but ummm🤔 actually, now that I think about it, Mitch wasn't Doo-Doo either! You wanna argue about that Brian? 5* The Host by Brandon Massey I am no longer fond of logging into wi-fi at resorts, hotels or whatever! I don't even want to fool with Airbnb after everything this couple had went through 😂😂😂. Dante and Nicole wanted to take vacation to some maintenance repair on their marriage. They were hoping that this vacation would help to build the bond they once shared. It did more than they had bargained for. 4* Skeletons by Blacc Topp Awww Man, Marchelle messed me up with that call, and right there, I became totally invested in the story. I was back and forth with my feelings about Marchelle, at first, I didn't know if I should hate or understand her. I wanna say Smitty ruined her from the start, but frfr, her father's lack of fathering did that. The verdict is not out just yet on my feelings for Jarvis either. I mean he's really a cool dude. Trying to be in something he was never built for, jacked him up. I do not want to say too much because I do not want to spoil it, but I will say, The "I didn't see that coming" moments were executed perfectly. 5* You Can't Know This by Dwayne Alexander Smith Racine was in a bad space. Nothing seemed to going right in her life at the time. Bo, her bestfriend convinced her to go out on what already seemed liked one of the worst days of her life. Racine gloomy days are becoming brighter. Taking Bo up on the invite was one the best thing that could have happened to her when she finally meets the man that takes all of her worries away. However, the things Racine finds about her love Winston literally knocks her to her knees 5* Overall I really liked this anthology of 4 short stories told by 4 creative writers 4.5*
Well dang. All of the short stories were intriguing, exciting, a page turner. I was on the edge with them all, except for the last story, I ran out the basement. The first 3 had me mad at the end. I definitely wasn't ready for them to end. The last story, once it got to basement, I left them all right there. Overall I truly enjoyed the read.
What can I say??? It took me a while to read this because of my busy schedule but honey when I finished....... all of The tells were great! The last two tho...... they both had me hanging on my seat. Blacc Top you already know! If you like a twist definitely check out the last tale. Well done authors!
I would recommend this book to anyone that likes suspense and thrillers each author created stories with plots and twist that gave edgy and creepy at the same time their writing skills was very unique and page turners good job to all the authors.
4 Secrets was an interesting read. The more I read, the more intrigued I became. I've read work from a few of the authors but, reading this made me want to read more from the authors I knew little about. If your looking for an interesting read, I strongly recommend this book.
Some of the authors in this anthology were new to me but I enjoyed the twist that was in each story. Some of those secrets had me a little nervous. A good suspenseful read.
I have had this anthology for sometime and I am literally mad at myself for not reading it immediately! I've only read 2 of the authors works (and they are my favorite male authors) but the others did not disappoint! I highly recommend this book!
I was in the edge of my seat waiting for the next shoe to drop. The manipulation and deception that you don't even see coming was brilliant. But what I like most is Brian's writing style, his use of metaphors weave my mind into the story. Great job! And without spoiling anything I'm going to say "friends" need to mind their business!
The Host
What you thought to be a romantic getaway was anything but. Great suspense and mystery. Brandon gives you something to think about when logging into WiFi. I certainly will be more mindful of the networks I connect to.
Skeletons
They don't always stay in that closet, skeletons that is. This was a heart wrenching story. Caught up in a menagerie of circumstances created by manipulation and naivety this family gets a cruel gut punch.
You Can't Know This
Talk about creepy. This story was bone chilling. I'm familiar with the other authors but this is my first read of Dwayne. I'll surely be seeking his other work!
With SEX, BETRAYAL, ALIBIS AND UNCOVERED LIES… Brian W. Smith, Blacc Topp, Brandon Massey & Dwayne Alexander Smith DID THAT! This mix of authors lend 4 very eclectic writing styles to the “4 Secrets” anthology.
Although I’m already a fan of both Brian W. Smith & Blacc Topp’s writing, I was unfamiliar with the work of Brandon Massey and Dwayne Alexander Smith. Going in...I was hopeful these authors did not disappoint and upon finishing I was SCREAMING, THEY DID THAT! I loved each and every edgy story and I even found two new authors to fan girl over!
