Atkinson presenta una introducción a la filosofía de la historia partiendo de un entendimiento cuasi-positivista, el libro transcurre en una larga comparación entre las ciencias naturales y la historia alegando las dificultades que la historia tiene para tener objetividad en el sentido popperiano y con algo de abuso de la filosofía analítica. Es un libro algo difícil de leer por su lenguaje (siempre rebuscado) y con argumentos que los historiadores contemporáneos ya han dejado atrás.

Es mucho mejor libro para justo estas preguntas El Paisaje de la Historia de John Lewis Gaddis.

Ugh I hated it. Its so cartoonishly masculine and pretentious in the approach it takes and the examples used. But it did have some good information, and it signposted me to a few more things to read on the subject. Would have given it a 2.5 if I could have, though.
