From Heel to Heart

Rate this book
With six years under her belt at work and the highly deserved title of senior financial analyst, Lana Scott has done very well for herself. But something is missing from her life. Love and family. But few women are interested in starting a family at her age, especially when they’re focused on their careers. With her heart still on the mend from the tragic loss of the love of her life several years ago, Elli Voss is nearly out of hope that she’ll ever find love again. And she’s even less hopeful that she’ll be able to have children to train as her heirs to take over the family tailor and repair shop that’s been passed down in her family for several generations. After a chance encounter and a promise to grab a cup of coffee soon, they may have just possibly found exactly what they’ve been looking for.

Amy DeMeritt is an author of Sapphic romance and an occasional poet. She is a lover of the arts, coffee and tea, a day of sitting on the beach watching the waves crashing against the shore, and good books and music to get lost in. (A good thunderstorm is one of her favorite forms of music.)

Amy takes inspiration from every experience in life and gives her imagination full reign to take a small detail and expand it into an intricate tale. Weaving experience, interests, and even pushing the boundaries of personal comfort, Amy’s stories take a reader on a journey of varying emotions and the joys and trials of love, romance, and growing as an individual, all of which are embodied in an entertaining plot with complex characters.

Just an ok read. Was promising initially but just tapered off in the second half of the book. Just too many declaration of I-love-you that there’s only so much that I could muster even for someone as sappy as me....Or perhaps I’m not sappy enough...hmmm ;)

Very sweet and very quick

So this was a pretty good read if not a bit too sugary and a bit too instalove and instaskill. I would have liked more drama to help the characters actually grow. But if you want something simple and easy or even drama free and sweet, then this might be for you. Free with kU!

This is a sweet love story with lovely main characters. Though I don’t much like that it was written in present tense, I did enjoy the story. There was no angst and a lot of warmth in this story. It would have been even better with less mundane details of day to day life as a shoemaker/shop owner. 3.8 Stars, rounds up to 4 stars in Goodreads.

I liked everything about this book until I found Ellis needed to compare or bring up her relationship with her (deceased) wife problematic to me. Now, most of this was under her POV and it was only thoughts she had, never expressed them but still it was a bit weird.

The other thing for me was difficult to understand was Lana’s change of mind about her career was very abrupt considering she was really into the work she used to do.

Even those two points that I mentioned are kind of big, the story was good and well written, you really could feel the authors need for you to understand what the characters were going through and what they were feeling.

I also enjoyed how emotional this book was, for me the description made by the author about Ellis' loss, Ellis fighting for what she wanted, Ellis or questioning what has she done (actions) was amazing.

Good, tender, slow love story which I enjoyed by the writing was odd, almost talking to me as if I had little intelligence - and as for Elli's English sayings, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, Buttercup.

I kept reading hoping it would get better. I was wrong. The entire book develops in a shoe repair store. The main characters meet there because of a broken heel that needs repair. From that meeting, within one week, they were in love. One of the characters is a highly paid financial advisor, but she's disenchanted with her job and asks for time off. The time off is spent with her girlfriend, the shoe store owner getting trained to repair shoes and clothing. I should have quit the moment one of them said "hello sunshine" but I was still optimistic. Nothing happens in this book that is memorable, important or interesting. The financial advisor gives up a career so she can repair shoes and saw buttons. The shoe repair lady says "aye" until you want to strangle her. I do not recommend this book.

Absolutely Lovely!

I loved this story from the first word written to the absolutely loving ending. This has to be one of the best love stories written. No enemies, no exes, no haters. It was two people who took their attraction and followed it through. Accepting each other’s flaws and learning as much as they could in a couple of dates. I felt the love they had for each other and that is attributed to the writing. For Lana and Elli their love has won in this story and could definitely see a future story.

Excellent, moving and gentle lesbian romance.

Amy DeMeritt shines as a storyteller and a world builder. In From Heel to Heart, she brings a work weary financial analyst and a charming shoemaker together. Elli Voss carries on the family trade in a business that spans continents and centuries. Lana Scott works for Bit-Cube Tech as a senior analyst, but her love for her career has run its course. She stumbles into Elli's shop after breaking a heel on her stilettos. After a string of tardy appearances at work and unduly harsh reprimanding from her supervisor, Lana can ill afford another late arrival. Elli takes her ugly mood in stride, promises to replace the broken heel with a matching creation and sends her off to work with a pair of substitute flats. All she asks in return for her largess is a coffee date.

I thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted romance. I am spoiled enough to wish that the novel was longer and the pace was slower. Romance develops very quickly between Elli and Lana, but the fast pace does nothing to diminish the profound impact that they have on each other. Unlike so many of the novels that I've been reading, the main characters act like women who love women without unnecessary foul language, overwrought dramatics or any role-playing BDSM antics. I continue to be impressed by this wonderful and prolific writer. I look forward to the next novel without the slightest reservation.

This is a wonderful story with so much love you can feel it as you read it. Some may think it is unrealistic but love is like that sometimes.

Amazing story

Amazing story, charming, sweet, romantic and spicy. I enjoyed reading it since the first page. The characters are gorgeous and captivating, Lana and Elli are special, two lonely hearts wishing for a family, love, partnership and legacy. I loved it and I definitely recommend it.

Very fascinating story

So Elli and Lana shared a lovely romantic and almost magical love.
The breaking of the heal was an unusual beginning to the story.
I gave this 5 stars because of the storyline which was unusual in itself. I also fell in love with your main characters and the parents as supporting characters.
This book had a lot of repeats in the story. I was actually put off by the constant I love yous on almost every page. Love is a grand emotion and I have been there but the constant verbalizing of it can be overwhelming.
Anyways Elli was a true character and I loved her.
Now we need a sequel to this book so we readers can learn if Elli and Lana get married and have children.

Started off good but then dragged. . .

The author would overly explain moments ( i.e showing how they cleaned their home) and with how obviously in love the two main characters were after just one date, I decided after reading 30% to skip ahead to the last few chapters and can honestly say I didn’t feel like I missed anything. The plot was simple and you knew the characters weren’t going to have drama because they were both too sweet and in love plus they somehow had all their friends and family to help them accomplish everything and anything. It’s a sweet romance just wasn’t for me, especially with Ellie saying “Aye” every second, no Brit I knew said that even if she’s really an American with a British accent.

This is my second foray into the works of Amy DeMeritt. I enjoyed learning somewhat about the tailor and cobbler business. Measuring, forming, cutting, mending, fitting, etc. Love happens quickly sometimes, so I wasn't put out by Ellie and Lana's coming together. It was a good story about loss and healing and chasing long-term happiness over a passionless job. I didn't like getting bogged down in some of the emotional descriptions but can't say how better to show the emotion versus telling me the emotion. But it was introspective for Ellie so I suppose it works. I'm just glad I've enjoyed her other work as well. This one really doesn't disappoint.

Magical.

I have never read this author's work.I have really been missing out if her other books are half as good as this I am in for a wonderful time. I loved this story ,no spoilers, it just flowed from the first to the last page. I love when I read a book and get really interested in what they do and learn something I will never look at a shoe again in the same way. My only complaint is I would like it to have gone on longer Perhaps a follow-up them going to London being from the UK I would love that. Highly recommend this book. Thank you for very enjoyable few hours it's one am. In the morning. Lol.

A sweet romance

Can you go from white collar to blue collar? What's more important in your life happiness or status or love? Those are questions the main character has to ask? Can you stand working and living with your partner? From personal experience it's very difficult but it can work and this is a novel not reality or your life,. I think I'd like another novel about what happens after the HEA.

Amazing!

Amy DeMeritt continues to amaze me with the depth of her characters and out of the ordinary storylines. Lana and Elli's story begins with a broken heel, centers around a family shoe business, and includes a cast of interesting supporting characters. I highly recommend picking up this or any other book by this author!

A sweet story which features a building older lesbian romance where there is talk of starting a family, serious relationship. Amy DeMeritt also does a wonderful job of capturing a character struggling with a search for their passion and the implications which it has on a career. Would recommend to anyone looking for a happy love story.

Good book over all

This book was good, ok story and great characters. Some of the wording of the English accented character was a bit off( I don't know many people that are from London say aye instead of yes) and the endearment are a bit corny. But overall a good read.

DNF
If I read the word "aye" one more time I'd scream let alone "sunbeam" no idea what part of the country the author thinks we speak like this but I've never heard anything like it.
It started off fairly well then became instalove within a week and so predictable that I gave up

This book was ok. It wasn’t very special and was kind of cliché. The story was very predictable, super drawn out, and unrealistic. I wish there was more character development.

Beautiful and romantic story with well described characters with a lot of feelings. But really is a fairytale as in the real world there are not this kind of stories who are moving so fast and everything is so ideal and perfect. But it is a story that took my mind away and I enjoyed it.

Okay, so this one was an unnexpecting surprise. I think everyone can relate with Lana's feeling and life choices and I just plain loved it.

Ellie is a very creative person, with her job and everything she does at her shop. I'm glad that she found Lana.

Another must read

Amy DeMeritt is one of my favorite go to authors when I just want to read something light, but meaningful. She creates such powerful characters that feel like real life friends that you can’t help but want that everlasting love. Both Elli and Lana are suffering in their own lives, but are able to connect infamously. The chemistry is off the charts. Passionate. This is definitely setup in my rereads. I look forward to more books by Amy.
