A Spur Award-winning Author How could it have happened? A prisoner, locked alone in a guarded cell, had been shot and killed at close range. Sheriff Go-Ahead Rider already had his hands full in Tahlequah as the Cherokee capital braced for a vote on the issue of a land grant. But Rider never expected a murder in his own jail. And with his full-blood deputy, Beehunter, under suspicion, Rider took the crime personally.
Robert J. Conley was a Cherokee author and enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation, a federally recognized tribe of American Indians. In 2007, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers' Circle of the Americas.
An enjoyable read. Mayby written for a younger audience as the storyline isn't too original. But I loved the characters, and really enjoy the authors easygoing style.
Conley writes a great story about a Sheriff, Go By Rider, who was elected to his position as a result of his war record in the civil war. What's interesting, is this is an analogy of a murder, planned, and executed by one man to whom the plan was flawless. But like most criminals, when a logical detective gets involved, the truth wins out. This one will have you guessing as you're still turning the pages.
