The action takes place between 1944 and 1984... Tha diary belonging to Fabrizio's mother refers to the horrors of the war (WW II). Guido's letters to Lina (Fabi's mother) show aspects of life in the army, different political opinions, sexual obsessions. I particularly liked the narrative technique combining letters, diary, thoughts, change of narrators. From the love story of his parents the focus switches to Fabrizio's obsession for Lea, a woman married to Mario, his best friend. And also to Fabrizio's dream of filming Antigone Pacifica. I also liked to follow Italian-Canadian life details: customs, problems...ALL. And especially Fabrizio's being caught among 3 cultures. Quite interesting. After having read several books by Antonio D'Alfonso I realized that there are also some autobiographical influences...like the passion for writing and filming...no matter how many obstacles he may come across.
