daniel farson went to turkey and fell completely in love and tried very seriously to move there, buy land, build a house and garden and live in that perfect place on south coast. all that dream failed.
but in the interim he travels all over turkey, from golden horn to lake van to southwest, and though the conquering of coastal turkey has been completed by the hippies, yuppies and germans with cash, this is still and interesting look at back roads and that unique way that daniel farson likes to roll, down the dark alleys, far away from the tour buses and tour guides, having his drinks, his snacks, his encoutners, away from 'tourist' areas. so a fun snap shot of turkey a la 1980's, before usa wars on iraq etc,
team this book with great novel of same time and area and national book award winner, Blood Tie and a more modern day look coupled with deep, but glancing, history in this Meander: East to West, Indirectly, Along a Turkish River
farson book has one map, lots of pictures, but needs more, and index.
