As we face yet another crisis leading to a flood of think pieces about the Supreme Court's proper role or the importance of legitimacy, here's an interesting perspective from someone present at the last great constitutional crisis. A thoughtful reflection on some big ideas presented for a non-legal audience, Cox's book is only moderately painful when he talks about concepts (abortion, affirmative action) that remind you how thoroughly removed we are from the legal conventional wisdom of the 1970s.

Great book if you're interested in how the Supreme Court has influenced the political environment and vice versa in the USA up to the 70. I would love to read an update to the book but Mr Cox passed away in 2004 unfortunately.
