Good if brief introduction with a good selection of reproductions of some paintings and a complete b&W listing of all his works. The quality of the colour is not really high enough however.
It is truly a complete collection of the works of Watteau – beautiful color plates (35 total) in addition to 215 plus black & white images of work, good biography. My reason for reading was due to a new acquisition at the museum -- a bust of Watteau. I am not a big fan of Rococo but came to appreciate more the Fête galante style of painting that was attributed to him. (Although both Rubens Garden of Love and Giorgiones, Fete champetre did that centuries before Watteau.) I was most drawn to his painting Gathering in the Country which I found is now called Fete in a Park. It's colors and composition remind me of Manet (Luncheon on the Grass).
