He thought he’d seen everything.
But his new investigation tells him otherwise.
In the third Chizzik Saga, Dov Chizzik, head of the Justice Ministry’s Police Investigations, meets his most complex investigation yet.

He must rescue the government from a violent threat to its authority, days before a crucial election.

Four Palestinians take over the home of an Israeli family in a non-violent role play and force them to live in a tent in their back yard for a week, with minimal food and water.

This sparks a series of brutal revenge kidnappings and murders. Dov must discover the mastermind behind them, and find the perpetrators, to save seven young Palestinian hostages.

But his mission comes at a heavy price.

The two people he loves and cares for the most, become targets.

And the stakes get higher.

Wow this is a very detailed orientated novel. If you like murder mysteries with political overtones and tons of action. This would definitely be for you. Jumps right into the fray of things and has you flipping pages to the very end. The main character Dov Chizzik is well written in the story. And everything that goes on around him too. I would suggest reading when you have a good couple days to yourself. Because your going need it for this one.
Dov Chizzik, head of the Justice Ministry’s Police Investigations, is given a mission. Well was suppose to be a tiny one just to sort out the he said she said thing. But what was suppose to be small is in fact not small at all. By time he is done investigating he will have everyone in a upheaval.

This was an interesting read. I liked it but I wouldn't say it is one of my favorite books. There is a lot that goes on in this book and at times I felt like there were too many details. I felt like some parts went on and on while other parts there wasn't enough. There was a lot to like about this book though. Some of the characters were great others not so much. I am sure others will enjoy this book more than I did because it is action packed and full of intrigue and is a thrilling ride. I would recommend it to those who enjoy this type of book.

Humus, olives, politics and crime

Loved it, not romanticised, cracks in people and country not papered over at all. Refreshingly candid and a twist at nearly every turn.

A thriller with substance

Author Paul Usiskin presents the third volume of his Dov Chizzik Sagas with JUST PEOPLE, a satisfying and well-informed novel. Paul lives in London but visits Israel often, having attended Hebrew University and completed his military service; he now is a journalist and television documentary producer. As a peace advocate he lectures in many institutions and workshops and writes about Israel and the Mid-East.

Paul’s writing style adds a special dimension to his series – wise yet with a sly humor as experienced in the opening paragraphs of this book: ‘They waited in the cool Washington night, not winter cold, not yet. Every few minutes one of them would walk past the plate glass frontage of the hotel bar to make sure their man was still there. We’ll call them Slim and Heavy for now. “Dunno what Mr Poshface has to talk about. But there’s talkers and doers and he’s definitely a taker,’ Heavy said, coming back from his latest peek. He kept his voice low, not wanting his New York accent to be heard. “Yeah, but there’s talkin’ and talkin,’ right?’ said Slim. “Didn’t the Brits have a sayin’ in the war, ‘Loose lips sink ship?” Ain’t that what this man’s been doin’? And this is a war.’ ‘Yeah right. He’s been blatherin’ to people who hate us…’ As the characters develop, this lingo feels so on target.

The story is well summarized as follows – ‘He thought he’d seen everything. But his new investigation tells him otherwise. Dov Chizzik, head of the Justice Ministry’s Police Investigations, meets his most complex investigation yet. And the stakes get higher.’

Tightly wrought, this is a thriller that will satisfy the most particular reader. It is one of those books that remain in the head, long after reading. Recommended.

Just People is a gratifying mix of history lesson and a thriller story. It tells a lot about of the still existing dispute between Jews and Palestinians and the part each one played in the creation of the Palestine State and Israel. The disputes started many years ago but just continue to exist and to kill more and more inocent people. The book also says a lot about how ordinary men and women become killers, spies, or persons blinded by their beliefs. It is very well written and touched my heart as it describes the saga of one man and his very small family and their connections to the past of a nation. It is a book that cannot be read on one go, it cannot be taken lightly as although a fictional story tells the story of many people. Just excelled my expectations!
I read the book after receiving a copy from the author.
