This book was published during Reagan's presidency, but its message is timeless and extremely relevant. It is not a long book, but has many chapters, each of which is devoted to a single mechanism through which we can be manipulated by some agent (person, government, corporation) using faulty logic or some other means.

The book also explores some consequences of being lax in our attentions, in words of warning which ring particularly true right now. The final section, titled "The Lure of Authoritarianism", discusses the work of Stanley Milgram, and how susceptible we are to agents of authority, who can promote falsehoods or otherwise manipulate, to further their own interests rather than ours.
