Hello!: Is that you God?

Rate this book
Our problem is that sometimes we cannot hear properly; and sometimes for all sorts of reasons we fail to understand. A bit like a child who develops communication and they grow and mature in communication skills. It is not immediate; and actually we continue to develop interpersonal communications for the whole of our lives. Many of us could enjoy the same experience (journey) in our communications with God."It's interesting that as we get older we cut out certain frequencies. Sometimes our ears are just not attuned, or sometimes it's because of distraction, like when I pull up in my car and start talking to my next door neighbour and sub-consciously disregard the regular bell-like pulse of my alarm that tells me the fact that I've left my lights on to my peril. Perhaps the alarm is ringing and this book will help you to hear it."-Dave Bilbrough, International worship leader and songwriter

I am not a believer in the traditional sense, but more that there are great mysteries to the world that cannot necessarily be explained by science or what we think is true. Having said that, I think it's important to separate the idea of God to that of religion, where control of others can lead to closed minds. If humankind could take responsibility for its actions and be kind to one another, the world would be a different, better place - whether the idea of God or religion could be instrumental for that end, I don't know.

This book may be full of answers, yet I think that it opens up more questions and that nothing we see, hear, touch or taste is ever straightforward and that it is vital we continue to seek for more and never accept other people's truths as our own.

To question is the way, and if your way clouds or shuts the mind to 'other' then it is dangerous.

Life is a many things, glorious and sad, but a heart entwined with hope is open to all possibilities.

This is a well written piece and could certainly help those who need it, and maybe those who don't. It contains themes of hope, love and faith and that is no bad thing, however, I wonder if there is enough questioning?

My wish is that these kinds of books open rather than close hearts and minds.

Readers must make up their own minds - then question again, as nothing is ever set in stone.

'Hello' is a very straight to the point book. i took it on holiday with me, and it was such a good book to read on the beach because it is interesting, challenges thinking and is entertaining, and a light read. i liked the book because the chapters were small, straightforward and cleverly written. Each chapter was written in a different style which kept me wanting to read more. i would recommend this book to give out not only to people who believe in God but also to people who are unsure if God is there and how He works. The book shows a variety of short witty real stories that help the reader think about when and how God works through everyday situations, the book makes you think about situations in your own life when you have been looking for God, or experienced an unusual miracle. A very well written and interesting book.

This is a very interesting little book, and very well written. The author relates stories from his life documenting his very intimate relationship with God. There are also stories from the lives of others which affirm his message; the message being that we are all able to communicate with God if we try. Adrian Hawkes gives examples of when God has spoken to him directly and through others, in some very fascinating and inspirational stories. The first few chapters, where the author is describing events from his life where God has intervened, reads very much like the 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' series of books. I found that I didn't want to put it down. Adrian Hawkes uses this book to set out his theory on how God gets involved in our lives by speaking to us, either directly, through others, through circumstances, nature, etc.
There were a few editorial issues, but on the whole the book was well constructed and sends out a very important message.

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads and was surprised by the brevity of the book. Hello! Is That You God? is a concise set of short stories on how the author has received answer to prayer and been surprised at the God speaks to him. The stories seem to be along the lines of parables where Adrian Hawkes realises and learns that there are very few, or even no, ways in which God is not prepared to communicate with you if you are prepared to listen. In keeping the stories to events that seem to be within his own experience he doesn't over reach himself; nor does he develop on how the reader can learn how to listen out for God other than being open to any form of communication. Nor does he inform on how to tell what is an actual message rather than a perceived message. It may be suitable as an intoduction to the topic.

I did not enjoy this book. The pictures didn't match the stories at all. The author of the story said that he believes in God, yet he doesn't trust God enough to send a hot water bottle to Africa. He seemed very hypocritical telling his stories, such as the one mentioned above. I am happy that this was a very short read, because I didn't waste much time reading it. At less than fifty pages, it only took about half an hour to read. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone to read.

Excellent book!

After reading this book I eagerly pursued God, seeking the kind of relationship I had just read about.

The kind of book that will inspire and encourage.
