Michael Wilton, writing as Michael N.Wilton

Following National Service in the RAF, I returned reluctantly to banking until an opportunity arose to pursue a career in writing. After working as press officer for an engineering company, I was asked to set up a central press office as group press officer for an engineering company, then moved to become publicity manager for a fixed wing and helicopter charter company where I was involved in making a film of the company's activities at home and overseas. I became so interested in filming that I joined up with a partner to make industrial films for a number of years, in which I was responsible for preparing treatments and scripting, before ending my career handling research publicity for a national gas transmission company. With the advent of self publishing, I have written several books - a romantic comedy, as well as two children's books.I am a life member of the Writers Guild. This book was for my granddaughter, who had enjoyed a previous book by this author. I had just finished a book and with nothing else to read, I took a look at the first few pages, which turned into my finishing the book. Despite the intended audience being much younger, I really enjoyed this book! I was surprised at some of the twists, especially when what appeared to be a story about an evil step father became a fantasy adventure. A fun book which rattles along at a good pace. Suitable for the young at heart!

Granddad Bracey has his daughter, Mary and grandkids, Sally and Peter living with him. His daughter’s husband was killed in a car accident. Granddad Bracey is a retired navy merchant captain. When their mom comes home one day with a strange man and daughter, the kids are unhappy. When they find out they will be living with them because the man is the new husband, they are truly upset and can’t believe it. When their mom becomes ill, she is taken to the hospital as she has been slowly poisoned by her new husband’s daughter. Why? Sally is able to tell the ambulance people what is causing her mom to be ill. As time goes by Sally and Peter tell Granddad that they heard the new husband and daughter plotting against their granddad and the kids. When things go from bad to worse, they decide to escape and end up going to a land no one knows about. Sally, Peter and Granddad go on a quest to save Mary. Sally is after a witch to save her mom. Peter helps as well as Granddad besides the new friends they make. Will Sally catch the witch?

A charming and engaging story that engaged me from the beginning of the story to the end of it. I enjoyed Sally’s personality as she never gives up even on the adventures she has in the story. There are jokes throughout the book. The story is imaginative and quite funny at times. The plot flows smoothly. It’s great fun to read. My only complaint is that it ended so I hope the author will continue to write more stories like this one.

Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book from the author/publisher from Netgalley. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review or any review at all. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

An excellent fantasy story for younger readers

Having read previous books by this author, I looked forward to seeing what his imagination would conjure up next. I wasn't disappointed. Beginning in slightly darker vein than his previous books, it soon transforms into a super story for younger readers, as Grandad Bracey (the nickname is explained in the book) and his grandchildren, Sally and Peter are whisked away from their home by the ghostly Charlie, in an effort to save the life of their mother, poisoned by an evil witch who wants their home for herself for reasons only she knows. Soon, Charlie takes them on a fantastical journey in his 'space bubble' across the galaxy to a planet known as Seven Seas, where the wicked witch has escaped to. Together they must fight to save the people of Seven Seas from the evil witche's plans to take over their world before they can release the children's mother from the evil spell of the witche's poison. It's beautifully written, exciting and enthralling as Mr Wilton weaves his own magic into the words of the book.
I'm sixty-six and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so it's safe to say this is a book for all ages. Well worth five stars in my opinion.

Fun, Adventure & a Little Dash of Magic.

This book has all the ingredients for a great children's story. Sally, Peter and their Grandad are thrust into another world in a race to save their poisoned Mother against a gang of baddies who are led by an evil, scheming witch. I loved the character Sally, she is spirited and clever and shines throughout as the true hero of the novel. I've read a few of Michael Wilton's other books and this is another engaging, well written tale. There is plenty of action which will appeal to both boys and girls which includes flights in a spaceship, a visit to a castle, battles with the baddies, there is even an explosion thrown in for good measure. The characters are superbly crafted and the dialogue flows well. I found Grandad Bracey an endearing and almost comedic character. There is plenty of tension throughout the novel, combined with surprise twists and a little dash of magic. It all makes for a thoroughly enjoyable read, which I would recommend for middle grade / older children. Five stars :-)

Completely enjoyed this fun adventure story and I am confident that many kids will feel the same. Aimed at around 7 to 12 year olds, the story follows two young kids who lose their father, staying with their fantastical Granddad Bracey and also facing their mother's decision to remarry. The story then takes a wonderful turn of fantasy of ghosts, ancient curses and battles which will certainly get young minds running away!

A very well told story which will be enjoyed by the younger generations. It could even be a good bedtime read by parents - chapter by chapterat night!

This is a great lesson book for children working through tough situations. Two children lose their father and their mother remarries. They are living with their Granddad Bracey and learn that sometimes things don't always go like we want them too. But, when you walk a journey and make it through the rough parts things can turn out better than planned. Great book to read along with your kids. This is for children in 2nd through 5th grades.

I received an electronic ARC from BooksGoSocial through NetGalley.
This book will appeal to middle grade readers. An adventure story that also helps kids dealing with difficult situations. Enough emotional connections and action to hold a reader's interest.
Fantasy elements combined with real world issues.

Forget Grandad Bracey; the central character in this children’s book is Sally, as is right and proper. Be prepared to read a story where a space bubble meets a witch and a mum gets kidnapped. You will read about Ramon and the rebel army in a book where Charlie’s bagpipes scare the evil Bridget and all sorts of strange things happen. There is never a dull moment here.

This is a real escapist read that imaginative adults will enjoy just as much as children! I was never entirely sure where the story was going to go next - there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing. I'd recommend this for children around the age of 12 upwards, but it's also an engaging story for younger children to read with their parents.
