His whole life Hrafn had been ridiculed for his inability to always understand things. He was slower than others when it came to comprehending the world around him, but that didn’t mean he didn’t want what everyone else did – love. Yet, he was sure that would never happen for him, for who could ever learn to love someone like him?
With a knock on the door, Teagan’s world had been changed. Unsure how life could be so cruel and take his family from him, Teagan struggled to find meaning in his life. Searching for his ancestry led him to the place where the origins of his family tree began. If he’d known his being there would bring hell upon earth to that small town, he never would have come. Then again, if he hadn’t, he never would have met his fate.
Hrafn and Teagan must find a way to break down the barriers of their past so they can see what is Beneath the Surface if they hope to find their eternal love.
Bestselling author of the Cedar Falls Series, Hart Medical Center Series, Miracle Series, and Paranormal Wars Series, Shea Balik has always had a vivid imagination with stories running around in her head. Often her stories are taken from observations of other people with her own spin.
Traveling is one of her favorite ways of fulfilling her passion of people watching. You never know, one day you may spark her imagination for her next book.
Whether at home or traveling she is usually in front of her computer writing or curled up with a good book.
Another great addition to the story. I absolutely loved the twists. Things are getting desperate and dark I’m on the edge of my seat wondering what’s going to happen next.
Oh *sighs*. This was the other one I wanted more than anything. If you’ve been keeping up with this series, you know Hrafn is a bit ‘slower’ than the others in that he doesn’t get things as quick due to brain injuries. Thanks to his asshole father. He hoped and prayed that his bondmate would really love him, but he wasn’t for sure because he felt like everyone thought he was a loser. And after 1200 years, the abuse from his father still rang in his ears. So I really wanted someone special for him. He deserves it and so much more. When Hrafn gets to Scotland to get to Teagan, it’s almost not in time. He does all he can to protect him and keep him safe, while trying to explain a bit, but fighting the pets is hard. When they get the veil closed and the pets are all gone, thanks to Teagan’s new ability, they have to rush Teagan to the hospital. He’s hurt and almost doesn’t make it, but for Hrafn, he fights and lives. And now Hrafn has to explain everything to him and how he knows all about it. But he doesn’t get to explain it all before there’s another attack. Teagan loses a friend and a lot of people are hurt but they get it closed one more time. And Hrafn drags Teagan away to Colorado, where a lot of secrets come to light. As usual, by Fen. And heaven forbid, he explain half of what they need to know. What they do know, is Teagan is in a lot more trouble than the rest, when they find out why. And it’s not just the Unseelie they are having to fight now, but the Seelie as well. And the things they can do are making everyone wonder if they will truly be able to defeat them. All this, while Hrafn and Teagan are trying to figure out their relationship. Teagan wants Hrafn but Hrafn is too afraid to hope. Until Teagan flat out shows him and they bond. There are hurt feelings sometimes, as Teagan learns to navigate this sensitive man, but his love for Hrafn is not a doubt. Now Hrafn needs to believe that Teagan sees beneath his surface to the heart below and they need to stay alive to stay together forever. Hrafn, out of all of them, is my favorite. I love all the guys in their ways, but something about Hrafn. His innocence and gold of a heart makes him so beautiful. He hates to fight but does it because he knows he needs to. He’s so soft hearted and tender. Beautiful and vital. His soul is so pure, there is just a glow to him. And anyone who doesn’t see it is blind. He’s amazing. And it breaks my heart he’s so hard on himself. Being abused by his father wasn’t his fault, but those words of that hateful man can’t seem to leave him. Which is why I was happy when Teagan started really seeing him. He saw how Hrafn really was. His heart. His soul. He felt like crap if he phrased something wrong and upset the man because that was never his intention. He wanted to uplift him. Especially when he found out what had happened to him. And he did. He was forever telling Hrafn he loved him. Or touching him. Or something to let the man know he was special and loved. This book made me so happy. It’s going to be a rough journey through the next few books. They’ve got a major fight coming on their hands, but they’ve all become a family and stand for each other no matter what.
Rating: 3.5 stars Hrafn was one of my favorite characters from the previous books. So much so that I skipped the past two books just so I could read his story. While there were events that I missed skipping those books, it didn’t stop me from keeping up with the story and didn’t detract from my enjoyment of this book. I really loved Hrafn and felt bad for all that he went through in his life. It was good to see him get his HEA with Teagan who is perfect for him. As far as the main plot goes, we keep getting information piece meal which is a bit frustrating. Still, I’m invested in the characters and want to know what happens next, so on to the next book in the series.
so much fun and sexy and interesting.. made me happy.. this character and his love made me smile.. they were so sweet and loving.. and different.. which was fun.. i enjoy when characters arent the "normal" it was very good
Things are getting harder for our druids! And Hrafn has a love interest! I did have some scenes in which I confused Keegan and Teagan (the names are too close) but the romance is lovely!
I loved this story about Hrafn and Teagan. This is full of twists and turns as Teagan learns of the others and their powers. Along with secrets revealed as to who the group of druid friends are descended from.
A new threat is revealed that causes the group to double their efforts in training and protecting each other. I have loved Hrafn from the very first book. He is so sweet and caring. His past is sad and horrible and I really felt empathy for him. Teagan seemed to be the balm that helped him heal what he thought of himself.
I thought Teagan and Hrafn were fierce in the face of their enemies. They fought with a determined passion to vanquish all threats. Another thrilling addition to the series.
Fantastic read and I highly recommend the entire series. They must be read in order as each book picks up where the last leaves off.
A fantastic latest instalment from the author. This time, it's the turn if Hrafn, the 1000 year old viking, cursed to protect the druids and their descendants to protect the rift from the monsters crossing over. Teagan who is his druid and like the others his fate. Bit as with the other stories, they both have a lot to get over in their own self perception and guilt , self doubt before they can bond and grow. And boy, do they do that. Read it and enjoy.
This was filled with great action and intrigue. Hrafn was so sweet, protective, and caring that it was hard not to love him. And his backstory was so heartbreaking that it made me angry with his parents. I was so glad that Teagan saw him for who and what he truly was.
I'd really like to have more insight into the druids' abilities now that they are immortal. In previous books, we've gotten hints that they have something extra once they mate, but we haven't gotten any evidence of it.
I felt that Hrafn wasn't the same character, in his own book, as he has been in the previous books. He was able to communicate with the whole team much more easily than normal. I would have liked it more of his communication was tied to Teagan specifically, or if mating had opened something up which facilitated its new ease. Instead, we get a different character and no one remarks on the difference.
Beneath the Surface is the fifth book in the Druid's Curse series by Shea Balik. Hrafn is one of my favorite characters. He is so sweet and I just adore him. He is wise in q way that others aren't, even though he has his struggles. Teagan is a wonderful partner for him and I love them together. The story is exciting... with some drama, suspense, surprises, humor and heat. Each book has gotten better, what will the last half of this series give us?
Another great add to the series. Hrafn and Teagan’s gives us so much more then I expected. I loved learning more about this Universe and how it connects to them. Sweet and adorable meets exciting adventures! Hot chemistry with twist and turns that had me guessing, don't want to say too much because it would be a spoiler. If you loved the series so far this is just as brilliant. Can't wait for the next. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.
Again! She did it again! Another book that grips you. Take you for a ride and doesn't let go. I just love the guys in this book. They make you go awe and also growl at people. I didn't want to put it down. Its soooooo good.
