“Rob Regor knew that humans were trouble. All the shape-shifting mermen of the Morvann Islands knew it. And human women were double trouble, especially when they were lying on the road in front of a digger.” Rob has a mission. Go to the mainland. Work as a policeman. Find out as much as possible about the mainland humans. Report back to his father, the head of the Regor Clan. It should be easy. Until he has to arrest Charlie. Rob can’t fight his attraction to the sexy eco-warrior, and it puts him on one hell of a collision course with his family and his Clan. Will he break the rules – or break her heart, and his?

I immediately began reading Music for a Merman by Alice Renaud, after finishing Book I, A Merman’s Choice. I was so enchanted with the world Alice created, I had to know what comes next. I love that, without looking at the blurbs, I anticipated it would be Rob Regan’s story to be told next and I am really looking forward to it.
Rob Regan is a rookie cop….and a merman. A warrior of the Regan Clan.
A woman, lying the in the middle of the road, right in front of a digger that is part of a development that many in St-Sulien opposed. I love how Alice Renaud incorporated our current social media and click happy culture. These touches of realism add those elements that make a book special to me.
Oh yeah. I am buckling my seatbelt for a bumpy ride, when I visualized Charlie’s seductive smile. I think Rob will have his hands full and I anticipate some laughs along with some lovin’.
I love that Alice Renaud created characters that are opposite of the characters in Book I, A Merman’s Choice. It keeps the stories fresh and exciting. I do love a spunky, flirtatious, snarky girl having fun with the shy, naive, hunkalicious cop.
Even though I know where we’re going, Alice Renaud throws in a surprise or two along the way to a happy ever after.
Who’s next? We have done two of the three clans, so I foresee someone from the Dooran Clan being spotlighted next.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Music for a Merman by Alice Renaud.
I have been anticipating this book for awhile, and Renaud did not disappoint. The book opened with Rob, a sexy merman, who is working undercover as a cop. He has to arrest Charlie, a spunky and adorable protestor, and their initial interaction was hysterical.
Renaud created two very likable characters in Rob and Charlie. You can't help but pull for them as they fall in love and struggle with family issues. As usual, there are some great visuals and references to the sea. I particularly liked Renaud's mention of refloating dolphins. Who knew? She also had some great character descriptors. One particularly noteworthy one was when she described Charlie as "a little incendiary device." And holy Moses, who knew mermans were so well endowed? Lol.
This is a fast-paced and exciting read that effortlessly weaves in the magical quality of music. It is short and sweet, but toward the end it takes a dramatic turn you won't see coming. Ultimately it is a book about love and resolving family hurts. I highly recommend it. You will find yourself looking for a glimpse of a merman in the water on your next beach trip.
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book, but I believe it will be releasing on Amazon soon.
*WARNING* contains adult content Rob Regor is a police man on the island of St-Sulien. Rob was sent to the island by his father so he could keep watch on the humans. Rob was excited to live with humans, even though he is a merman, he doesn't dislike humans like his father does. This book makes a beautiful collision of two worlds. The description of the transformation from human to merperson is unlike anything I've read before. Music has a few different meanings in this story, so the title is beyond perfect. Most of the characters are not st all likeable, but the main characters are lovely. The story edited well, written well, has all the feels of a romance and everything expected of a PNR.
A uniquely intriguing, sexy, downright fascinating PNR that I devoured in less than 2 days!
Once I started on Music For a Merman I was hooked. It was both extremely sensual and incredibly descriptive. The way Alice Renaud describes the merman in their true form, I could almost accurately picture what they look like in my minds eye. The romance between Rob and Charlie is beautiful, forbidden and passionate while the story gives us a fresh take on mermaids and merman and their customs and rules. I loved the way that this story was written. It is completely original and oh so sexy.
Music For A Merman gets a FASCINATING FIVE UNDER THE SEA STARS!
I picked up the book intrigued by the blurb. It's the first book by Ms. Renaud that I have read. Music for a Merman is the second book in the Sea of Love series, and I really enjoyed the story.
I confess, I have not read book 1, which did not matter, but I do intend to grab a copy because I enjoyed the author's writing style so much. The story flows well, the conflict between the local police constable from a Welsh village and the eco-warrior sucks you in from the first page. There are twists and turns, but the story delivers a neat ending.
Stories about cops – and the ‘bad girls’ that get busted by them – are the age-old stock of romance novels...
Not this cop, though, and certainly NOT this ‘bad girl’!
Alice Renaud’s ‘Music for a Merman’ is a breathtaking tale. Like its predecessor ‘A Merman’s Choice’, it’s set on the Welsh coastline. Alice’s hero Rob Regor is a kind soul, but one stuck in a rather untenable position: His father is the irascible, xenophobic chieftain of his merman clan, and Rob has been placed on the police force to spy upon the humans.
Alice’s heroine Charlie is one tough cookie… at least at a glance. 'Music for a Merman' is the story of Charlie letting down her walls as Rob finds a way to balance his love with his duties, both to his clan and the law.
Like 'A Merman’s Choice' and the upcoming 'Mermaids Marry in Green', 'Music for a Merman' is an easy read for a lazy afternoon…
So I highly suggest ordering it, and freeing up an afternoon!
Rob Regor is St-Sulien's newest police constable and for his first arrest he has to deal with a eco-terrorist who is trying to halt progress on beachfront development in the Welsh town. Once he literally carries the problem away from the construction site, he realizes that Charlotte Fitzwilliam is no ordinary woman. She sends an electric current through him and beguiles him with her wit and beauty. Of course, he's no ordinary constable. He's a merman of the Regor Clan, sent to the mainland in order to report back on what the humans are doing. Unfortunately, Charlie seems to have an inordinate interest in the inhabitants of the Morvann Islands, so Rob is drawn to her and then repelled, lest he reveal any secrets about himself or his clan. Rob's father hates humans and has carried forward the generational warnings against fraternizing with humans in order to keep the Merman gene pool pure. When Rob gives Charlie up and so protect her from his father, he creates a song for her that tells of his love for her. He sings it in the sea and from far off, Charlie hears it. This is a feat only soul mates can perform. When they come together, it's with the hope they can find a way for their love to grow, but fate steps in, in several different ways. One of those was a great twist!
This is Ms. Renaud's second book in her Sea of Love series and liked it very much. For some reason, I tend to enjoy second books in a series a little better than first books. Maybe it's because all of the introductions of primary characters and locations are already done. I liked this book a bit more than The Merman's Choice because the conflict seemed stronger. The hero and heroine are both great in Music for a Merman. This is a fast read—read it in one evening—and enjoyed every minute. The only reason I gave it 4.5 stars instead of a full 5 is that there were a few loose ends. But they didn't diminish my pleasure.
I loved book one (A Merman’s Choice) in the series and book two did not disappoint. A great story line, likable characters, language that is easy to read, and perfect pacing make this book one you won’t want to pass up.
Charlie and Rob had a major attraction to each other right from the start. Only it was a forbidden attraction because Rob was a Merman and Charlie was a human. There was and ancient legend that said that every merman had a mate somewhere, who was the other half of his soul. Rob was afraid that someone was Charlie. Only he couldn't risk being put back in prison by his stern old fashioned father. I loved this story, and I couldn't put it down. I'm sure you'll love it too. I purchased a copy of this book, which hasn't arrived yet but I was also given a review copy to give a fare review before publication.
Music for a Merman by Alice Renaud is a sweet, clever story featuring Rob Regor, a merman warrior investigating the crimes humans commit against other species at the behest of his father, Rhys Regor, and Charlotte Fitzwilliam (Charlie), an Eco-warrior. The story is fast-paced and fun as well as clever and original.
The dialogue (and character thoughts) were amusing a witty. One of my favorite lines is "Charlie was his electric eel." - for some reason, the mental imagery surrounding this made me laugh out loud.
This is definitely an adults-only book, not for the kiddos. I would recommend Music for a Merman (Sea of Love #2) to adult lovers of fantasy romance.
Rob Regor, ordered by his father to keep watch on annoying humans, is a policeman on the lovely Island of St Sulien. Rob was not to know first arrest would be the feisty Charlotte (Charlie), protesting against ugly construction work. The attraction is instant but Rob's been warned against fraternising with humans. Charlie's not too sure about Rob either, but she wants him. Two worlds come together as their love conquers. I thoroughly enjoyed Alice's first book A Merman's Choice and waited for this sequel - I loved it.
mermen.. is there anything else i need to say? haha.. i love mermen and i love a good merman/mermaid story.. in this case its merman haha.. i dont read many mf anymore to be honest.. but this one kinda called to me.. and boy am i glad i did. it was well written and enjoyable.. i loved seeing this side of the merpeople.. it has paranormal aspects.. it has sexy stuff.. it has fun banter.. it has angst and love.. it has anger and sadness.. it is all around a fun story and i really liked it.
When I finished reading A Merman's Choice I knew it deserved a sequel and Alice didn't disappoint. Loved this story and wanting to read more of this lovable clan.
Once again, Ms Renaud has written a fun, easy story set in the mystical world of the mermen and mermaids of the Morvann Islands.
This time Rob Regor of the Regor Clan meets his soulmate in the form of Charlotte aka Charlie.... a poor little rich girl with a very interesting story arc. The pleasure of a sequel is the familiarity we as readers feel when we come across characters we’ve met in the first book of the series and that happens here and the world being created by the author is a little fuller too, adding to the enjoyment.
As with the first in this series, I was left wanting more backstory, more world building and just more in general. Being a novella though, that isn’t possible here but there’s certainly enough in each story so far to expand the mermen’s world into something three times a novella’s size.
Can an Eco-Warrior and a Merman Find Common Ground?
Rob Regor has a mission. His job as a policeman gives him the opportunity to scrutinise humans for his father, who hates the species.
Charlotte Fitzwilliam (Charlie) has left her family to save the environment, especially around the Morvann Islands and the nearby mainland. Her actions don’t please her rich family.
Both mistrust one another when they meet, but they soon find common ground. Will their connection make or break them?
Alice Renaud writes her fantasies for adults. Her style is compelling, and in Music for a Merman, the gallery of Mer-people, as well as humans, is delicious, the dialogue both amusing and complex. As a reader, you feel drawn into the waves, both in the figurative and the real sense.
Music for a Merman is a captivating read. Renaud captures your imagination from the beginning. Intriguing. Beguiling. Plausible plot and engaging characters. Romance. A hunky protagonist, Rob, mermaid turned cop, and his amorous, Charlie! What could possibly go wrong with loving a mermaid? Yes, there will be some negative feedback from family and friends. Not to worry, though. Love is love. Sensual lovemaking. And, in case you were wondering: there is a good reason why Merman’s physical attributes are mentioned (handcuffs optional), Renaud does a magnificent job of tying up all loose ends. Excellent work and a recommended read!
