Paul Klee, 1879-1940: In the Collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Rate this book
The sixty-seven works recorded and illustrated here are the finest examples in the Guggenheim collection. The earliest acquisitions were made in1937, the year of the Guggenheim Foundation inception, the latest in this current year of 1977. All the media that Klee employed are sixteen oils, twenty-six watercolors and gouaches, fifteen drawings and ten prints. They span the entire creative life of the artist, from three rare sheets of his notebook drawn at age fifteen to a gouache executed by the sixty year old artist in the year of his death. Despite some gaps in its chronological sequence, The Guggenheim's Klee collection may be seen as a representative sampling of Klee's rich and marvelous oeurve.
