Novel set around the then frontier town of Nebraska City in 1860. It is the story of the role that pioneer families played in the Western Expansion of the United States. Historical fiction set in the Midwest of 1860's. Abolitionist pioneers initially settled in an area where they weren't wanted so they move north to a more receptive town recently founded by Josiah Grinnell.

Dwells too much on romance for my taste, although it is interesting to read an historical fiction set in the place where I currently live. Part of the story takes place in Nebraska, Colorado and the South (Civil War battles). Other themes include pioneer life and the Underground Railroad.
