Turtles
Anita Baskin-Salzberg

Turtles is a nonfiction about turtles that gives many facts. Some of the facts that it gives are types of turtles and their features. It also talks about the differentiation between turtles and tortoises. One fun fact about turtles is that the smallest turtle was 3 inches and the name of the turtle is an eastern bog turtle and it weighs 4 to 5 ounces. The turtles first generation also appeared during the Triassic period, which was about 200 million years ago. Another fun fact is that turtles absorb oxygen from water from a small opening under their tail. Back in the old times, adventurers used to use Galapagos tortoises as food because they were so huge and provided a surplus amount of meat.

Their are many themes to this book. I believe the theme is to inform about turtles. because the author talks about turtles. I also believe the theme is to inform about turtles because the title of the book is turtle and it is nonfictional. The other theme might be to try and protect the turtles, because for one chapter it talks about how the plastic from soda packs can kill turtles and the same for garbage. I also enjoy these themes because I really like turtles and I don't want them to be harmed, and I hope it informs people not to harm wildlife and to learn more about them and how they benefit our world.
