About the author

George Robert Stowe Mead, who always published under the initialism G.R.S. Mead, was a historian, writer, editor, translator, and an influential member of the Theosophical Society, as well as founder of the Quest Society. His scholarly works dealt mainly with the Hermetic and Gnostic religions of Late Antiquity, and were exhaustive for the time period.

Quite dry; suitable for a very in-depth study. Mead assumes you have the Hermetic foundational literature easily to hand. I hope to have time to read the next two volumes, but they're pretty 'deep into the weeds,' so to speak, so I'm not sure they'll make it to the top of my reading list.

Dense, but Informative

So many more current writers researching the roots of Gnostic thought quote Mead. There is an abundance of sorting through earlier scholars happening in this work. Pay attention to the Footnotes. I plan on starting Volume II next!
