The story follows a family who plans to go on a road trip and their destination was Achanakmar, a beautiful wildlife sanctuary known for its picturesque landscapes but it was about to change when they take a wrong turn and the detour costed them a lifetime worth of horrifying nightmares.

It started out as a normal adventurous roadtrip but soon due all sorts of unusual delays and errors they ended up in a situation that they didn't even anticipated to would exist.

Slowly the night turns nightmaresish and all of them questioned how will they get out of this place without anyone getting hurt?

And if they survive how will they explain this? Will it be chalked off to their imagination or is there truly something lurking in Achanakmar that sanity cannot fathom?

Although this is a new release but I can predict that this will be a sensation. It will spook you, mind that and for those who love a good spine chilling horror are in for a treat. The verdict is that if you are brave enough to begin the read at night then be ready for some amazing creepy nightmares because this book of 56 pages will definitely be more than just a pure scare, it's going to make you want to sleep with lights on.

Spooky! Thrilling! Suspense laden!

A night at Achanakmar by Paromita Goswami, has all the elements required to fit the above three labels. The story starts off like any other simple jaunt, with the travelers taking in the scenery around, and enjoying every bit they see, till a little bit of inattentiveness causes them to miss a turn. Tempers rise, irritation creeps in, and the test of endurance begins. What follows next, is something that keeps them on tenterhooks. Witness to some strange things, they finally find themselves drawn into a situation beyond their wildest imagination. Is it real or is it just a dream?.....The question haunts……

Endowed with a strong plot and vivid narration, ‘A night at Achanakmar’ will keep you on the edge till you reach out for……..the icing on the cake, ‘The End.’

While the plot had me enthralled, the narration came as a slight disappointment, more so because another book by the author, a book that bowled me over by both the plot and style, ‘The Clockmaker,’ was still fresh in my mind. I couldn’t help make a comparison between the two, and while I’d have wanted this one to be at par with it if not overshadow it, it failed. Looking forward to the next in ‘The Jungle Series’, hope it outdoes ‘The Clockmaker’.

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown”
― H.P. Lovecraft, Supernatural Horror in Literature
The supernatural is fascinating and terrifying. It is fear of the dead or unknown which draws us but at the same time make us squirm with terror. “A Night at Achanakmar” by Paromita Goswami is one such novella.

Couple of families are trying to get to a reserve forest. The are lost and somehow reach there very late in the evening. They are hungry and tired and then a village boy helps them to find the forest guest house. All sort of strange things start happening there.

The story is a quick, breezy read and can be finished in one sitting. The atmosphere is creepy and the tension is real. However, I expected something more in the guest house. Recommended for horror enthusiast.

This undoubtedly is a spooky read ! Although it kind of felt like a Bollywood horror movie I watched few years back, it still was a very amusing read.
The sequence of events were very nicely done, the descriptions were vivid and the narration was fast paced. I liked the ending and the suspense till the end.

A thrilling, intriguing story, full of mystery which got me hooked from page one. Having read the author’s previous works, I found this story to be more fascinating. Even though towards the end I found the story a little predictable (maybe because I have read and watched many thrillers). But still, if one likes horror, supernatural, thriller, and mystery, A Night At Achanakmar is definitely worth a read.

This one was amazing short read, can be finished in one setting. I never tried something horror spooky story yet but watched some movies. I thought it is just 56 pages so it is fast paced to complete. the story begins with Maya and she kept describing whole story. Maya and her family set out to begin the weekend trip to Amarkantak but lost and stranded in the middle of the jungle. zero network zone, not a single mankind on road ,the forest was coming alive as the day slowly died down to make way for the dark night. Here, the real story begins supernatural ,horrendous, creepy incidents, reflexive of bad and good spirits, howling wolves etc can be seen. Especially the Guest House is really haunted but have something painful story too. The last part of the story will leave you completely bewildered.

The language is very simple. The subject&theme justifies with the concept of the story well. I didn't like title particularly Achanakmar. Characters were well developed& one pack intact.I was expecting more suspense and horror that is why it is only one dislike based on the concept for me.

.
.

I enjoyed reading this book. it is completely made for entertainment but yes at last it will give faith restoration for unseen good soul/spirit might play lifesaver role.

.

I recommend this book to everyone who are looking for short read with fast paced can surely enjoy it.

First of all a huge thanks to the author and the team for sharing this wonderful book with me and giving the opportunity to share in my honest feedback on the same. Goosebumps. that’s how I will define the reading experience

Frankly I had actually been piling books in my tbr list due to a reading slump that was refusing to go away. So when I picked up the book , I almost mentally slapped myself for not picking this book earlier because it’s such an amazingly quick and short read. At almost six chapters, this book hardly demands time from you . Depending upon your reading speed you will be able to finish the book in an hour or so.

And trust me you wouldn’t even feel that you had been reading for long because the plot is fantastically weaved enough to keep you on the edge of your seats

The plot is so immersive and if you think I am just saying it for the sake of it, grab the book and read it. I bet you won’t be able to come out of it without staying till the end and getting goosebumps p

I love the mysterious and spooky buildup that the author created because it completely lets you get invested in the plot all the more.

In conclusion I would say that this book simply blew my mind. It is super short yet amazingly entertaining and absorptive. I have always loved the author’s writing style especially the magic she creates with the strength of the emotions. This book is amazingly true to its genre. Loved it.

A Night at Achanamkar is one of the stories from The Jungle Series, a collection of 10 standalone books which are themed around the jungles of India.
The story is narrated by Maya, who is on a weekend adventure with her husband, son, her cousins, Mitali and Shefali, and her husband. They travel to Amarkantak, however, they end up on the wrong road. They decide to take a shortcut to get back on track and hence unfold a series of frightening events
The plot is amazing; it is simple and keeps you hooked. There is just enough detailing involved for it to pass as a good short read. I liked the final conclusion and I loved the various elements involved (no spoilers). There was immense attention to details that proved worthy to the overall storyline.
What I did not like was the narration. It was quite plain and led to a few eye rolls. It was a bunch of “he-said, she-said” and showed no emotional range till the climax. There is also a huge mistake in the book; it says “The End” after the last chapter, however there is also an epilogue after it.
Nevertheless, it is quite spooky. Recommended? Definitely.

This book was among those which would give every reader a goose-bumpy ride throughout the read. This is a horror suspense story by Paromita Goswami. The title and cover do give an idea about the genre and plot this book has to offer but one can not fathom the storyline.

The story begins when the family plans to go on a drive, the destination being Achanakmar, a beautiful wildlife sanctuary. But life turns upside down when they take a wrong turn and there it all begins. The crazy horrifying nightmares, the spooky incidents which leave everyone astonished!

The family somehow tries to keep their calm and try to understand how to get out of the situation unharmed.

The narration is simple and language is lucid, which helps the reader stay connected with the story till the end. This book will definitely make you imagine all sorts of things, so be ready to go on a spooky ride with “A night at Achanakmar”

A night at Achanakmar by Paromita Goswami
The story is narrated by Maya, who sets out with her family to visit a pilgrimage site in Madhya Pradesh. A wrong turn takes them far away from their destination and they end up lost. By the time they get back on track, the night is upon them. They are forced to stay in a guesthouse in the middle of a wildlife sanctuary. To make things worse on the way to the guest house, they meet with an accident. Will they reach safety in time or does the jungle have something else in-store for them?

The plot is faced pace and keeps building the suspense. The character development is ok for a short story. The language is clear and easy to understand. The storyline keeps you guessing till the end without using employing cheap thrills to scare you. Overall a good book to read if you want something of a quick read in the thriller/ supernatural/ suspense genre.

A Night at Achanakmar is written by Paromita Goswami. It's my second book of Jungle series so had a faint idea what to expect.
Personally felt compared to first book "The Clockmaker: Supernaturalsuspense paranormal Indian Drama" this book is just OK or zing factor missing.
Plot is more or less given away in the blurb so no surprises there. It's like any other story of people going on trip in initial few pages but gets thrilling from portion when they change route to Achanakmar forest through some village to save time and feeling stays till the end. Charecters are relatable and author has justified all roles. Language is simple and story flows easily.
Book leaves readers with longing to know more in the end.

Pros:
Book is small and can be finished fast

Would recommend to readers who love reading fictions involving ghosts.

#2019 #YearInBooks Book 76

This is a 56 page short story about a paranormal experience that a family goes through while on a trip. Maya and her family are on their Amarkantak, each of them looking forward to the trip for their own reasons. But a missed turning results in a delay, and leads to, well, whatever follows I suppose. I'll not give it away.

Read it in the dark, in the silence of the night and it's a bit creepy. I liked that. I don't know if it would be a similar experience at other times. I like how each person reacts to obstacles in their way. It brought some differentiation to characters who did sound a bit similar.

It's a short story, so engaging in its brevity. Could finish in half hour or so. A nice one-time read. I'd say 3½ to 4 stars.

This gripping short tale maintains the suspense factor until the end of the book.
The story starts as the family plans to go on a road trip. The destination was Achanakmar, which became a horrifying experience for them. Even though it is a short tale, it is going to keep you hooked.
Maya is the narrator of the story. The plot is interesting. I loved the end of it. It has a beautiful ending to read for. It is a quick read and could be finished in just one sitting. The language is simple. The story is really good. I didn’t like the cover much.
The journey has a lot of twists and turns. This will spook you. It has the power to grab your attention. Read it out, and it would definitely give you some tough time to sleep early.
Highly recommended for horror literature lovers.

A night in a wildlife sanctuary, amidst wild animals and all other inhabitants of the dark woods. That is not a usual getaway for any normal person no matter how adventurous you are. "A night at Achanakmar" is a really good depiction of what it might look like. The story has been developed pretty well and I really loved the plot.
It's spooky, supernatural a little less of horror but don't let that deter you from trying it out. It is definitely a very engaging and entertaining piece, a very light read and something that can be finished over few hours by any reader.
One thing is definite that the book hooks you and yes there are no unnecessary details but only the one's that make your imagination run at full speed.
So, two words for every reader out there - do try.

This book has been written in first person from the point of view of Maya. The characters have been developed well and are realistic. The descriptions are detailed and the scenes could be easily picturised. The suspense is maintained till the end of the book with all the twists and the turns.
The language is simple and can be easily understood. A quick read, I finished it off in one sitting, the plot is such that it does not let you keep the book. Also, the cover has a big role to play as I kept on expecting something to come, and so I was not able to put it down. I read the book at night and the horror kept me up till late, I just could not sleep. The size of the book is adequate, I don’t think I could manage to read more of the spooky scenes.

Dreadful thriller

A gripping and enthralling short tale which can be finished off within an hour. Suspense is maintained until the end and the end will definitely makes anyone flabbergast. I personally never faced any supernatural move in my life yet. Does the dead soul commute with living beings? Might be possible in an oblivious state, But to everyone that to alike? Hmm... 🤔 interesting, the narration is superb and deciphered every move in terrific. The journey they took throughout had a lot of twists and turns but haven't yet reached the destination still they experienced something metaphysical.

This was my second book by Paromita Goswami - I have read “Grow Up Messy” from her some time back.

Paromita’s writing style is simple and very neat. No jargons and straight to the point makes up most of her writing.

The story reminded me of the Bollywood move Kaal. The plot looked very similar until almost middle of the story.

Talking about the plot, it was a little predictable but smooth and interesting enough to not leave it unfinished. It was spooky and scary at a few times. If only it was not so predictable and a little longer, I would have liked the story better.

Having read a different genre from the author, it was a decent attempt.

After a long time I'm reading a book in this genre. By seeing the cover and the title the readers can get an idea about the book.
"Amarkantak is about a 300-km drive from Rajpur."
The story starts with the road trip.
I loved how the author narrated the whole story in a very few pages.
The journey was awesome, the book has suspense, thrill and everything!
At some point I felt that the story could have been a little bit more longer, but it's totally fine.
The cover is eye-catching.
The title is subjective.
Language is okay.
Overall, a nice read!

I am always excited about reading books that have a supernatural element in it because it truly is one of my favourite genres. This book gave me major Blair Witch project vibes and honestly that movie gave me the creeps. The story is pursued really nicely. There weren’t as many scares as I was hoping there would be, the book wasn’t even that scary to be very honest but I had fun reading it. The basic premise was scary itself so there weren’t many jump scares required. The writing style adopted was also very simple. I would definitely recommend this book to beginners or younger readers.

⭐️⭐️ — Not Very Impressive

A Night at Achankmar has an interesting idea—a family spending a night in a jungle—but the story feels predictable and doesn’t create much suspense or excitement. The plot is simple, and nothing really stands out or surprises the reader.

Overall, it’s okay for a quick read, but it doesn’t leave a strong impression.

It a short read but absolutely compelling. it's terrific where Paromita Goswami takes the fear factor and chill to absolutely another level, redefining horror with the descriptions and blood making for fantastic imagery. A tale where horror meets philosophy makes it a quick, fast-paced read at night only.

A book with a spooky story

This is a short book in "the jungle series". Maya along with her husband, son and cousins, is going on a road trip to Amarkantak. But they get lost in jungle near Achnakmar. They are in no network zone, cannot find the right way and it's getting dark.
They meet a man named "Ratan" who takes them to a mysterious guest house in the mid of jungle. They decide to spend the night there. But the events happening there led to a very spooky situation.
How they managed to spend the whole night? What happened to them? What is the secret behind the mysterious guest house?
The story is very short and written in very easy language. But the suspense and thrillers were not that much good as I expected. I was always feeling like now something will happen, but nothing that kind of happened. Author has written a very good story but it could have been much better if it had been executed well.
But it's good for a short read. If you're looking for a book with some thriller and which can be read in one sitting, then you must read this one.

At first, I would like to tell that this book is a short one-hour read fiction read.
.
A family decides to visit a wildlife sanctuary when they are fond of different things just as we all have different interest in different things.
.
While they travel they get lost their way to their destination.
.
They have a terrible accident on their way.
.
And somehow they all end up in a hotel where the main mystery begins.
.
I know you would have got some idea about the story but still, it gets interesting further.
.
I just didn't like the last part of the story or I would be mistaken here I am still curious how they got out from the hotel.
.
The language was fluid and lucid. Grammar was okayish with no errors in the books. Writing and presentation all are perfect in their way.
