She finds her strength in a time of chaos and upheaval and chooses her own path

War Whore is the second book in The Soiled Dove Series by Tyranni Thomas. This book is based in the American Civil War in the south and shows the struggles and hardships that Flossie May has to endure along with her family. The family is uprooted as her father and two brothers must join the army and the rest of the family must follow them, which is what actually happened during this time. This is a hard life with war, death, disease, loss and devastation happening around them and to them. But this seventeen year old girl finds the strength of a true southern woman to take over the family and help keep them safe. She is pursued by three different men and ends up finding solace and protection with these men who are very different from each other. There is Kels the General, Wes a giant of a man who is gentle but must be a soldier and Avery who has been become the pastor of the group.
This is a very well written book with a story-line that grabs you in the beginning and will not let you go until the end. A very enjoyable read and definite recommendation to others!!!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

A View of The Civil War From the Camp Followers Point of View

This was a really interesting book. It tells of the American Civil War from an unusual perspective, from the point of view of the women in the camp.

The tale starts with a family in the South preparing to be over run by the Northern forces. Flossie May has just turned 17 and has two brothers and two sisters. As the eldest girl she is expected to look after the rest.

When the army reaches their home, her father is expected to join the army and the rest of the family are to follow him. Their house is burned to the ground and they are given two tents and two bed rolls between the 7 of them. The two boys join up to prevent them all starving.

This is the start of many horrible decisions the family have to make in order to survive. The camp is filled with the blood and cries of wounded soldiers, the moans of whores and the stink of death and disease. It is in this environment that Flossie May discovers her strength and determination to do everything she can to help her remaining family survive. She finds a different path from any that she or her family ever expected for her.

The book is filled with a contrast of kindnesses and despair and it’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I really loved Flossie May. She was so brave and strong, even when she felt like her knees were going to buckle, because she had to be. She was also capable of a great deal of love, even in her darkest days.

I really enjoyed the book and will be reading the next in the series.

This is a story of devastation and survival one young young woman endured during the Civil War. The author does a fantastic job building the story and developing the characters .. creating an unusual romance that even in today's world may raise some eyebrows .. and makes it work for all. You can feel the emotions , drama and danger coming through the pages. It was interesting to see the different relationships forming and how they all bonded to make a life together when the war ended. To lighten the mood a bit the author gives little sister Belle's sense of humor. I loved the line "Flossie and Kel -- sittin in a tree -- Man ya'll are gone need a pretty big tree!" You'll understand when you read the book but believe me , I had a good chuckle reading it after all the hard times they all endured. It's well written with vividly painted scenes and had me hooked from beginning to end.I loved this book and if you like historical romance involving the Civil War I think you will too.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

If you've read Soiled Dove then you'll know about Flossie May. This is her story about how she survived during the Civil War with sheer strength of will. Through loss, hardship and then being the sole carer of her sister - Belle. Who is a much needed breath of fresh air in a book where some parts are harder to read. Loved Flossie May in Soiled Dove and she was even better in her own book. Also loved the men that cared about her - Wes the gentle giant of a soldier, Kels the General in charge and Avery a friendly guy who got saddled as an acting pastor. I wasn't one for western type books but this series has completely changed my mind. Just a fabulous read

A fantastic work.
Like the first book by Tyranni Thomas “Soiled Dove”, this book was a first-rate book with outstanding writing. What this woman endured during the Civil War was so horrible and perhaps so very true. There is an unexpected romance that just shows what a unique read this was. Like the first book, I was very impressed with this work. I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
