I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
It did take a bit of time for me to become invested but once that occurred, I was sold. There is some excellent world building which we explore through showing via the characters, the best way to accomplish worldbuilding.
The characters are interesting and realistic, each having their own flaws and strengths. You become invested in their success. You care about them and look forward to seeing their victory.
The author has set up a world that is fascinating to explore, characters we want to see emerge victorious and a magic system that demands deeper exploration. I look forward to visiting their world again.

This was a fantastic read! Alex is a strong main character, and the reader can't help but be drawn into her journey through Aquillon as she searches for a way home. I am eagerly awaiting the second book in the series to find out what happens next!
