Swine Divine is a story about a pig named Rosie. Her owner attempts to dress her up and take her picture. It turns out Rosie doesn't like to have her picture taken; she just wants to be a normal pig who frolics in the mud. This book has chalk-like illustrations that are detailed and bright. This book would be appropriate for all ages but specifically 2nd grade. It teaches the value of being your-self and being confident in that. I would use this book to teach the above stated message to be yourself and not anything else.
Illustrator: Robert Bender Published: 1999 by Holiday House New York. This story is about a pig who thinks she is going to get eaten but instead is used for photography in ridiculous clothing. After a few pictures, she has had enough and runs away. She causes a lot of chaos in the city as she runs back to the farm. The farmer chases her and finds her back in the mud. Rosie the pig loves the mud and the farmer realizes that she doesnt want to wear ridiculous clothing and takes it off of her. It was a very cute book. I would use this in the classroom to describe onomatopoeia because it is used a lot in this book.
