The moral to be drawn from reading this book: scholarship aimed at undergraduates and sixth formers that makes any attempt at being up-to-date or engaging with current theoretical approaches is doomed to irrelevance. The 1962 essay on Juvenal by Mason is really hard to read without eye-rolling now that it is... not 1962.
