Arthur and George happily agree and ... This book makes children familiar with the negative effects of laziness and emphasizes the importance of dental hygiene
Lazy Hugo is a brilliantly illustrated children's story that helps teach the importance of being truthful, responsible, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In the story Hugo is lazy, messy, and lies about doing things like brushing his teeth. He ends up finding out their are consequences to his actions! Great story to help discuss hygiene and responsibility.
A fun way to introduce health concepts to children
Sajjad Sattari is a fresh new children’s book author and in this debut he is joined by the excellent illustrator Sahar Haghgui. This book is not only entertaining, one that children will love because of the imaginative characters, but it also is a fun way to open conversations about such matters as personal hygiene and healthy activity!
For starters, the main character is Hugo the Hippo – a fine way to start the jolly tale of a lad who is lazy, messy, has poor eating and hygiene habits – and very poor dental care. A visit from tooth worms George and Arthur leads to Hugo’s consenting to allow homeless other tooth worms to move in – and the results of course are unsatisfactory!
Colorful and well scripted and illustrated, this is a sparklingly good children’s story that inserts a fine lesson about avoiding being lazy and messy – and a strong tip on the importance of brushing teeth! Fun, entertaining – and educational! Welcome to a new author and illustrator. Recommended.
How do I describe this book. Hugo is the total lazy package. He has no personal hygiene. He doesn't even brush his teeth. He is a hippo who will teach you little ones a good lesson about consequences. Hugo loves summer vacation because he can do nothing. He got good grades in school. 😃 He could even skip some grades but he would have to do the work. 🤔 Not happening. 😑 Hugo only took a shower when he started bothering others. 😩 He hadn't brushed his teeth in weeks. 😴 He looked at his teeth and one of them had a black spot. What? 😱. What would you do? You get to listen/read and find out. Hurry!! Brush your teeth before you go on.
Sajjad Sattari has written a unique book on the importance of personal hygiene in children’s lives. It also helps them understand the negative consequences of being lazy.
Easy to understand and beautifully illustrated this is a book that will delight children. It is probably best suited as a book to be read to children as each page has a high word count. Fun and educational.
Appropriate for grade school readers. Teaches hygiene consequences in a fun, but meaningful way. Would definitely read during my reading sessions with the kindergarten to 3rd grade crowd
Hugo is a lazy hippo. He doesn’t like to go to school or study, neglects his personal hygiene, and refuses to clean his room. One day Hugo notices a black spot on his tooth. He decides to continue not brushing his teeth and ignores it. The author tells readers that worms are having a party on his tooth. They invite more of their friends. Soon the whole tooth is black.
When Hugo finally shows his parents the tooth, they take him to a chameleon dentist who removes the tooth. Why have the parents not been paying closer attention to Hugo’s habits? Does Hugo learn his lesson and become more responsible?
The lesson for children to be responsible for their minds and bodies is a good one. I am not sure about telling children that worms were on the tooth is a good idea. This book contains nice illustrations. I would not call it a picture book because there is a lot of text opposite each illustration. Some of the text needs editing and the layout is difficult for a primary grade student to read.
Hugo the kid hippo is school age. He has made bad badchoices for awhile. The story starts with explaining the various different things going on in his life. There are a lot of words. Nice bright colors for the illustrations. Problem a lot of words that take can intimidate a child or lose interest. Great message just rushed at the end. No long explanation like in the beginning explaining things done to make the changes.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The art was really cute, bright, and colorful. The story... It wasn't so fun. It felt really annoying and preaching to me. I get that kids books are usually for teaching a lesson or story. But this one just didn't work for me. Maybe it'd be more fun for a kid?
