The first half of this book would be worth reading if it were 2002, but this book is severely dated. For the first part, the author goes into detail about the lingo and ins and outs of pro-ana websites, which is fascinating, but again it’s dated. It’s a nice throwback, though. Super nostalgic.
However, the last half of the book is literally just forum threads from these websites. It’s completely useless. I guess if someone were an outsider to these forums, it would be slightly interesting and horrifically depressing to see how people talk when having mental illnesses, especially in a place where people rarely judge. To me, though, it was like going back to my 6th grade life when I developed anorexia and just browsed forums. It was a completely useless waste of my time to read a book when I could easily just browse an old pro ana website on archive for the exact same content.
The only good message was that these forums were a safe space for people to go when they had nowhere else to turn for help.
