I enjoyed parts of this book and felt a little frustrated in others. I could not believe how much it was NOT fun playing hockey for Australia and how much pressure was placed on the players. Additionally, the relationship between coach and player and the feeling of never being satisfied with a performance actually annoyed me in the end. At least though it was a honest account of how things actually were. There was a real attempt to be honest throughout but the lack of detail in some parts did not lead to the reader feeling they knew Alyson or feeling empathy for her. Overall though it was an enjoyable enough read.
Australia’s greatest women’s hockey player…. Her amazing life & career… filled with turmoil and International playing career cut short by shortsightedness.
In the years since Alyson’s story has grown…..a world renowned coach that led the Dutch women’s team to dominance and Olympic & World Cup gold medals….
