An interesting read about the voyage of Willem de Vlamingh to the west coast of Australia in the late 17th century. Because the book’s length is short it makes for a quicker read, keeping close to its subject without diverting too much. The Appendix is an English translation of the actual diaries, and I’m glad this was left until last as it was very dull reading of itself. Luckily the author of this book drew out and expanded upon all the best bits.
A very descriptive read of early Dutch explorers to WA and the now Perth region. The Swan River was named by them in the late 1600's. Contains a full copy of De Vlamingh's journal in the appendix.
