Maui's jealous brothers don't want him to come fishing with them. Maui is cleverer than they are, however, and not only does he trick them, but he catches the best fish of all.

The Fish of Maui

The Fish of Maui also known as Te Ika a Maui is a great story. It is about Maui reeling up Te Ika a Maui or the North Island. This story is well known to Maoris and some other races.
My favourite part in the story is when Maui crept into the canoe without his brothers knowing. He was really cunning and woke up before his brothers did and hid in the canoe. He waited until they stopped miles away from land and then he came out.
My favourite character in this story would be Maui because of what he had done, just to get that one fish. It shows how to never give up on something you really treasure.
I really enjoyed this story because although I have read it many times, I still find the story interesting.

Simply told with vivid illustrations. The myth of how Maui fished New Zealand from the ocean comes to life on the pages. An instant favourite with my children.
