Another gem from the freebie shelf at the library. It had nothing to reccomend itself but the title: a slender, battered book with a bland photo from the 1960s on the cover, wrapped in one of those crackly, protective library covers. Reading this was like taking a walking tour with a keen and intimate guide through the English countryside; a guide, who on occasion, has a tendency to wax lyrical and break out with bits of poetry over his favourite spots. It pressed all my Anglophile buttons.
