the great: unlike other textbooks that seem to be written like technical astronomy papers (looking at you Linda Sparke's "Galaxies"), this textbook is more comprehensible and combines the requisite equations with explanations of physical processes.
the not-so-great: it leaves to the reader the effort of derivation among equations, sometimes even when there is a long-distance leap involved.
