What a lovely children's book!
Set very high up in the Yorkshire Hills [or thereabouts], a very cold place with a long winter.

Bridget is 7, so presumably Gardam was aiming at that age group.

I can't imagine my just-6 grandson being able to follow this story, esp. with all the local and British vocabulary, but hard to judge. After all, kids can pick up new words [at least] as easy as adults. [And he is not exposed to any kind of UK speech.]

For me it created a fascinating picture of life on a farm in a remote area, and fun to be exposed to some local expressions and pronunciations.
