Stickler's thesis focuses on the difficult decade (30-20 BC) that followed Rome's conquest of Egypt, both in Egypt and in Rome. In particular, the study examines the documentary and papyri evidence for the conflict between Octavius/Augustus and the prefect Cornelius Gallus who tried to turn Egypt into his own powerbase from which to oust the recently triumphant Augustus. Stickler also examines in great detail papyri fragments that record Augustus' and Gallus' relations with southern Egypt and Nubia. German text, English summary.
