I very much enjoyed this 'coffee table' type book collecting Frances Benjamin Johnston's photographic work from a period in her life that permitted her to capture a very interesting time in history. Apparently she was well connected as well as having a persuasive personality because she had access to the White House and also traveled and photographed other famous people as well as those struggling. Her self-portraits were interesting to me. The pictures are from the Library of Congress. My rating is 4 stars. One curiosity to me was a caption mentioned that she was in Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) even though her ancestor fought on the British side. In asking a couple of DAR members, they state this isn't possible. Perhaps that was her persuasive ability?
