Published in 1987, 'Grumman A-6 Intruder Prowler' in number 26 in the Modern Combat Aircraft series by publishers Ian Allan. Like others in the series, the appeal to a modern reader more than 40 years later is mainly down to the fact that the subjects are no longer 'modern' combat aircraft, and this is reflected in the many superlatives used by the writers in describing the highly advanced state-of-the-art systems - a writer in a more recent publication about this combat aircraft type might be tempted to compare the systems to current kit. The writers can be forgiven for their perception of a long career well into the next century for this type, rather than the reality of them being dumped at sea to form artificial reefs before the century was out. All in all, a fitting tribute to an under-rated combat aircraft that fell victim to cutbacks.
