Helme Heine was a best-selling German writer, children's book author, illustrator and designer. He lived in New Zealand, writing screenplays, audiobook scripts and creating satirical drawings and sculptures.
A book which casts God as a sort of cross between the painter Renoir in old age and Raymond Briggs' Snowman, this is a beautifully illustrated take on the creation story, which ends with the child Adam and Eve heading for Paradise on the back of two large black panthers. It's translated (a little clunkily) from the German original and I'm not sure the results are satisfactory from a religious or storytelling point of view. The artwork, though, is quite enchanting.
De Nederlandse bewerking van Willem Wilmink gelezen. Persoonlijk weinig met het scheppingsverhaal, maar door de illustraties is het wel een mooie manier om het als een sprookje te beschouwen.
