Traces the history of Colorado's Indians from the early bison hunters and the rise of the Plains culture to the continuing attempts to maintain Indian identity in the American society.
Even as Hughes writes on the side of self-determination for American Indians, his book betrays his time period of the 1960s and 70s. This was a decent introduction into the communities in Colorado but I'd like to read something more modern or in depth to get a better understanding. This was just a fast overview.
