Solid-State Laser Engineering

Rate this book
Written from an industrial perspective, Solid-State Laser Engineering discusses in detail the characteristics, design, construction, and performance of solid-state lasers. Emphasis is placed on engineering and practical considerations; phenomenological aspects using models are preferred to abstract mathematical derivations.. "This fifth edition has been extensively updated to account for recent developments in the areas of diode-laser pumping, laser and nonlinear crystals, passive Q-switches, and highly damage resistant optical coatings.

I'm four editions behind, mine is the second edition, it's excellent for laser basics. With cheap commercial lasers elements widely available, I suspect that most people working in this broad field will never have to do much design work. You may want to look at it before buying, get thee to a really good library or technical bookstore.
