I really branched out on this one--mainly because I wanted to help an indie author. It's an autobiography--I NEVER EVER READ NONFICTION. LIKE EVER.
So.
This was new and I'm not quite sure how I want to do this. *muses*
PROS ~
· It was honestly an amazing testimony. · I loved hearing how Karin surrendered to the will of the Lord, even though it took time. :) · That Cover. 💖 · Hearing about the amazing change the Lord has done in her. TESTIMONY. · I loved the depth and rawness--openness.
CONS ~
· She repeated stuff fairly often when sharing about her abuse...and I was kinda like "okay, I get it. You've said that 15 times now." · The message came across really preachy, but straightforward. *shrugs* · I disagreed with a couple things said . . . (Joyce Meyer mentioned ..... speaking in tongues without an interpreter ......) · I kinda got bored, because the book wasn't really doing anything for me. BUT I have a good home, so abuse isn't a problem.
Overall ~ I appreciated the subjects Karin touched on, her testimony, all the scripture used to back up what she was saying, and the passion for the Lord that shines throughout her story. =)
**FTC DISCLOSURE** I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. I am not affiliated with the author in any manner, and I'd appreciate if you would remember this is my opinion. Being my opinion, I request that you not take anything that may be offensive to heart. Thanks!
This grasping read will take you through Karin’s childhood. It will fill you with the joys of acknowledging the things that you would have been taking for granted till now. Karin does a rather marvelous job in immersing her readers in her roller-coaster of life events. There were moments in the book where you can feel the fear that little Karin would have endured. You feel like reaching in to lend her the supporting hand that she deserved. Then you feel the relief as she finds her way out of the difficulty that is placed before her throughout her life. The one thing that is very evident throughout the entire book is the absolute and unwavering display of faith that Karin has. And that too for good reasons as well. This will come across to you as you read how she is guided through the treacherous paths that was Karin’s life. Her only weapon in this fight with her unfair life, the word of God. Feel the experience of having faith and believing in the word of God. Share the joys that Karin felt when she was lifted and carried out of her miseries, with her faith being with her when no-one else was. If your faith is wavering or you are having doubts, Karin’s experiences will be more than enough to put things in place for you. Her undying belief in God is truly remarkable as she experiences the joys of miracles when her son undergoes a tragedy. Nothing short of a miracle is what I can say for what she went through. Who do you trust when you doubt yourself? Who do you look up to when your parents do not care enough about you? How do you go through life when the odds are stacked high against you? There would be lots of places in the book that you can see yourself in the picture and relate to on a very personal level. If you need that silver lining in that dark cloud, Karin’s words will surely provide you with more than one in her new book My Journey To Enjoying My Life.” Karin Thompson https://thrivedays.com/my-journey-to-...
“Don’t be in denial…Intentionally let go of everything that anchors or torments your soul.” I felt as though I was sitting with a dear friend who risked everything to intervene in a loved one’s struggle for survival. “…I tell you it is time to honour your soul and allow it this time to heal,” Thompson said. I expected the book to continue in this voice of admonishment and encouragement. Still, to my delight, the chapter ended with a series of re-affirming challenges, asking all the right questions to guide the reader to understand the key points. As if such clear, courageous guidance is not enough, Thompson launched into a personal testimony that should break the heart of every father. Every Dad needs to read this book and commit to God and your child never to be this man. “It was such a frightening revelation to me. I was my dad…” How terrifying it is when we realize we have become the very thing we fear the most. God takes each one of us to the place where we find the strength to say, “I was broken, wounded and needed help…I prayed to God for help.” Thompson walks us through what she describes as her “…Fight for the light to shine in my life…” and the steps to get there in our lives. My Journey to Enjoying My Life provides scriptural guidance, prayer, and challenging questions to guide the reader to a personal insight that will change their outlook on life and relationships with friends, family, and, most importantly, God. As the reader continues through the book, Thompson explores forgiveness and God’s ability to carry our burdens. I think my favorite passage of My Journey to Enjoying My Life came when Thompson said, “God showed me that every time I was worried about the situation I was in control and doing it in my strength alone.” What an incredible revelation each of us must own. The real power comes in knowing, “My part was to believe His promises by using my faith. As I trusted Him it allowed Him to work on my behalf…” “My Journey to Enjoying My Life” reads like a personal testimony among friends and is a must-read for every parent and every child. Learn to park-your-mind and walk through the process of change as prescribed by Thompson and discover a new life filled with God’s Joy. I am happily pleased to recommend this book.
5 things from My Journey to enjoying Life by Karin Thompson 1) my standards were so high even I couldn't keep up with them. There was this constant voice in my head saying you're not good enough 2) The Word you hear is not going to profit you if you don't do it 3)Everyone wants to be loved especially when they are damaged we long to be accepted and belong. We were created to be loved and to love. 4) Don't allow shame to influence your identity. Don't allow it to influence your actions towards others or even your perception of them 5)It's time to hold your head up high and live a life free from shame!
Excellent reminders to live as though we are called and to hold our head up high as those belonging to the King!
I received a copy of this book from the author. this in no way affected my review. all opinions are my own.
"My Journey to Enjoying My Life" is a must-have book that will help you, no matter what the hurts of your past may look like, to move forward from the limitation that those hurts can bring to a place of realising your full potential.
In her book, Karin gently walks you through some of the abuse she experienced as a child, using her experiences to then clearly and skilfully present and teach the life-changing principles that helped her to move forward from the inevitable weakness associated with abuse to the freedom and strength that is available to every human being.
With Karin's help, you too can ENJOY the life that God has created for you.
Karin takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery. Using her own life experience of an abusive father, she illustrates that no situation is beyond God’s love and his healing.
She artfully shows how healing from abuse is a journey and that it takes a life time to perfect it.
The book is beautifully laid out with her personal stories, Bible verses, prayers and Q&As in the form of a study guide.
Although I found the book to be wordy and repetitive at times, the overall message still shines through. I recommend it to those struggling with their past. You may find a light at the end of the tunnel.
Although a short book, there was much encouragement. I am grateful that Karin had the strength to share her story. Her story will touch many people--as it has my own. Thank you Karin and keep on writing.
