In his latest work, Robert Ellsberg, the author of many acclaimed works on the saints, looks on the “living gospel” that is written in human lives. From biographical reflections on traditional saints and spiritual masters (including Dorothy Day, Henri Nouwen, Thomas Merton, Flannery O’Connor, and Oscar Romero), he reflects on what it means to read the spiritual text that is written in such lives. From that, we learn to read our own lives in the same light.
Just a beautiful book, not just a reflection on the lives of "holy" saints who are chiseled in stone, but on how to actually--- each and every one of us --- can LIVE his/her own holy life on their own terms.
Ellsberg shows the both the Christian (and the "none" as well, I believe) journey and a path to find their own "true North" in the examples of how other saintly people did it in their own lives.
A very well done study of selected saints of the church. It raises the question in many minds why Protestants do not revere saints. We do have many in the history of the church that are worthy of being considered such.
